Loblaw Companies Ltd. is asking the public not to consume frozen uncooked lean ground beef sold in 1.6-kilogram packages, as it may be contaminated with the bacteria E. coli O157:H7.

Sunspun frozen bearpaw-shaped beef burgers have also been recalled for the same reason. They come in a 4.54-kilogram box containing 40 patties.

The products are sold at Loblaw banner stores across Canada, including the Real Canadian Superstore. The company has removed the affected products from its stores. No consumer complaints or incidents have been reported to date.

    The ground beef bears the UPC code 0 60597 35235 7, and a best-before date of June 1, 2014.

The UPC code on the burgers is 0 603830 90524, and the best-before date is Feb. 24, 2014.
