Rugby (a game for men with odd-shaped balls, apparently) has the "use it or lose it" rule, and I think that this could be used to good effect in football at all levels. My intention would be to apply the rule against teams taking the ball to the corner flag in the dying minutes of a game. The ref could award an indirect free kick on the half way line for excessively negative play, and add 30 seconds to the time to be added on, to allow for the defending team to get the ball to the half-way line to take their indirect free kick. Can anyone see a down-side to this?
I think time-wasting should still continue although it annoys me. Teams who time waste are doing whatever it takes to win.
I dont agree with ya U4L It wins teams games yes its a pain in the backside but when your team does it, its a different story and the balls not out of play so the ref cant do nothing about it
Nothing wrong with taking the ball to the corner at all. Every team does it. If the other team want the ball then just tackle them, simple!
Time wasting most certainly goes against the nodes of fair play but what are you going to do about it. The ball is still in play and play shall continue until it goes out or the referee stops play. It's not big, it's not clever, it's something that those mucky Gooners do, but it's still legal.
