Hornets Court Not Fit for Practice

The Hornets were unable to conduct their opening day of training camp Saturday at the new 30,000-square foot expanded portion of the Alario Center because of a warped court, team spokesman Harold Kaufman said.

"(Alario Center officials) are taking steps to get it all finalized for us," General Manager Jeff Bower said. "But at no time will we have to leave here."

The facility's officials could not be reached for comment after the Hornets completed their practice. Until the courts are repaired, the Hornets will conduct practice in the original gym at the Alario Center.

The Alario Center expansion project was completed this summer and cost $8.7 million. The two new courts are NBA regulation and have four wireless scoreboards.

"This is still very adequate for what we need to do," Hornets Coach Byron Scott said. "We have enough baskets and all that stuff. It's still 94 feet (court), and that's all that matters."
