History tells us there have been some quick NBA turnarounds.

    Take 2004-05.

A year after winning 25 games, the Washington Wizards won 45 to make the playoffs for the first time in eight years. They did it largely with the acquisition of free-agent point guard Gilbert Arenas, a former Golden State Warrior, along with Antawn Jamison, an inside force picked up in a 2004 draft-day trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Jerry Stackhouse.

    Take Byron Scott.

Scott went from a 26-win coach of the New Jersey Nets in 2001 to a 52-win coach in '02, all the way to successive trips to the NBA Finals.

Of course, Scott had a high-voltage point guard in Stephon Marbury to trade for Jason Kidd. He had a young star in the making in power forward Kenyon Martin, and, as he put it, "We got Kerry Kittles back, and we got lucky in the draft."

When it comes to valued property on the trading market, what do the Hornets have?

    One man only: Jamaal Magloire.

As of the moment, logic suggests the 6-11, four-year pro will be playing somewhere else next season, possibly in Toronto, but this, of course, comes down to what do you get in exchange, in draft choices, in player or players?

As of this moment, the only two starters you can pencil in for next season's Hornets are 20-year-old J.R. Smith at guard and 36-year-old P.J. Brown at forward.

When it comes to the Hornets of the future there are many imponderables, and it all goes back to two guys who were once the best players on the roster: Jamal Mashburn, who quit on Tim Floyd, and Baron Davis, who, before milking an injury and using it to get out of town, made life miserable for Floyd, then quit on Scott.

A fact of life in the NBA. </div>

Other than Magloire, the Hornets have no players of value...they need to have a good draft...I think they'll be stuck in the lottery another 2-3 years because I feel they'll have a hard time recruiting the major free agents...

Well I beg to disagree here. Dan Dickau and Lee Nailon are of value. Dickau is probably leaving though. What about J.R Smith and P.J Brown? They have good players, but it isn't working very well.
