I don't know if you saw this yet...2,000 cases of perfectly good Little Debbie cakes tossed out because a truck dumped them on the freeway? See you at the Landfill!! http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/06/oregon_217_crash_sparks_debate.html
"Little Debbie" is a real person, and a good friend of mine. We were classmates in high school, and I'm still in touch with her and her husband. The idea that snack cakes couldn't be given to poor people because of their low nutritional value is ridiculous. If you're poor, you're probably not eating the best food anyway. A few snackcakes would be a nice treat for your kids, if nothing else.
Unbelieveable. Of course, it has to be an official Oregon State Government Employee to judge whether or not they're edible. Good grief. There was a time when people could decide that for themselves. Did no one think to call a freaking food bank?
It looks like they're working on giving some of it away. I could see the landfill manager now though..sees the truck rolling in..."jackpot!"
What I wouldn't have given to have been the cop responding to the scene. "We're going to need a giant urn of coffee...stat!"
Say...if you see her any time soon, let her know I'm willing to take free samples of some of her cookies...
I worked my way through college at McKee Bakery, which makes Little Debbies. I used to eat the Apple Delights and Peanut Butter Bars right off the oven rack, hot and bubbling . . .
That reminds me of this classic Simpsons scene. http://batmite1.vox.com/library/video/6a00c2252351328e1d011016773eeb860d.html
