'Tis the season! This is an odd movie that embodies the cheesy/weird/entertaining 80's feel. Post 'em if you have 'em!
I'll try and recommend some people probably haven't seen and might be on NetFlix. Keep in mind these are all B-movies: Stake Land -- well-directed and shot indy vampire movie Tucker & Dale vs. Evil -- flips the script on the siege horror film in a fun way Pontypool -- a horror movie that isn't all about jump scares and running away from baddies Rammbock -- small-scale take on the zombie genre that works out nicely (German) Outpost -- Nazi zombies, enjoy (or Død Snø, Norwegian, same concept but not done quite as well) The Burrowers -- a horror film set in the wild West, I liked it The Signal -- combines genres for a good horror-thriller mindscrew, little film school for some Quarantine -- good to watch with your GF The Crazies (remake) -- more of an A movie, I thought it was a lot better than the original, Tim Olyphant is the shit except for Hitman
It's just about time for my ritual re-watching of Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness (boomstick edition). Hail to the king baby.
Conjuring was an excellent horror movie. Best in a long time. Maybe best since exorcist. Insidious isn't bad but gets lil crazy at end
Just watched "Troll Hunter" on netflix. Not really a horror movie as a hand held camera mockumentary type film with some jumping parts. Really enjoyed, was well done and loved the scenery you get exposed to throughout the movie.
This is a Reddit post that has a huge list of horror movies available on Netflix, divided into subgenres like slasher, monster, supernatural.
Just as "Nordic Noir" has really taken off, I think "Nordic Horror" deserves to catch on. Troll Hunter (not to be confused with "Troll 2" is great, "Ragnarok" is pretty good, and "Dead Snow" is a pretty fine Nazi Zombie flick. And then there's "Rare Exports" which isn't exactly a horror movie, but isn't exactly just a feel-good Xmas movie, and is a category all to itself.
I dunno, overhyped yeah, but I watched the midnight premiere in college then walked home alone at 2am... I had nightmares that night.
That only happened to me when I saw the original Exorcist in the Theater, we'd never seen any horror movie that graphic period and it freaked a lot of folks out.
So I've watched a lot more horror movies in the last two years, and the genre has definitely grown on me. That said, I tend to like horror movies that could be classified as psychological thrillers or just thrillers much more than what I would consider "classic horror". I really enjoyed You're Next, The Guest, The Babadook, The Voices and It Follows. I could list a bunch more thrillers but I really am not sure if they can be considered horror. If a horror fanatic wants to educate me on the definition of "horror movie", feel free.
