The Houston Rockets assigned second-year forward Tyler Honeycutt to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets' NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment is the record 129th of the 2012-13 NBA and NBA D-League seasons, while Honeycutt is one of the record 53 players to have been assigned to the NBA D-League this season.

Honeycutt (6-8, 188, UCLA) was acquired by Houston in a trade with the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday along with Thomas Robinson and Francisco Garcia in exchange for Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas, Cole Aldrich and cash.

Honeycutt has played in 24 games over two seasons, averaging 1.2 points and 1.0 rebound in 5.0 minutes, all with Sacramento.

He was assigned to the Reno Bighorns from the Kings earlier this season, averaging 10.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 31.1 minutes in seven games.

Originally selected in the second round (35th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Kings, Honeycutt appeared in 59 career games for the Bruins, averaging 10.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 31.7 minutes.

Honeycutt is expected to join Rio Grande Valley today and be available when the team travels to Santa Cruz on Friday, March 1.
