    For real.

Would Kidd retire as a Net? Would Martin be a Net past '04? Would the Nets acquire any interesting players because of their success?

Considering it was a 49 win team, I think most people considered them exceptionally lucky to be in the right conference. If they'd been in the western conference that year, they'd have been the 7th seed and bounced out of the first round. Beating a 60 win Spurs team would've been the biggest Finals upset ever.

I don't think Kidd would've retired there, though. It would've been such a freaky fluke that nobody would really expect it to get repeated. My guess is that team still slowly falls apart. Kind of like the Pistons did a few years later, only quicker.
