    I've heard about them, but never really used it before. I know more about Limewire or rapidshare. I was contemplating downloading episodes of the Wire from rapidshare and my friend was telling me how its a waste of time, when you can just get the complete season on a torrent. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to find or use them. Can anyone give me information, in the even that I decide to?

    First off since your use to the user interface such as limewire you would want to get Azureus, it makes things alot simpler and seems faser imo. Then you need a site theres many of them and u just type what u want in and it comes up I use torrentspy and isohunt. Torrentspy you just type it in and you can see how many people have it and sharing and how many are downloading (seeders and Leechers) they also tell you about the file from others commenting telling you if its fake and the quality.
    Azureus = http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
    Torrentspy = Torrentspy.com
    First thing though get Azureus installed and everything then once you find your file and download it make sure its being opened with azureus, if done right azureus will laod up and say where do u want this file located and everything and then it will connect to users and download like limewire. If you have any questions or problems finding a file just ask I can usually find files easily Seasons arent to hard.

    Well first you're going to need to find a good program like BitComet or Bitlord. And then go to a site such as torrentspy, torrentz, mininova etc. Look for the torrent you want and whatnot, start the download and select Open File and the the torrent program will automatically start D/Ling it for you. Some will take a bit longer than others mind you. So unless you got a really good connection, some torrents that are like 5.8 GB are going to take about a 1/2 day.

    They pretty much have it covered. I prefer Demonoid, and I use ABC. But whatever floats your boat really, anything that is popular is pretty much available. Not sure if these threads are allowed though...

    For the Wire just go to isohunt and search it up. I got Season 2 and 3 of it from there.

    Some of the torrents you may download are .rar files, which are compressed like .zip files. If you download a .rar file, you can use NewzToolz to decompess it.

    Yea, I'm familiar with .rar files. Thanks anyway, though.

    I prefer RapidShare over torrents, RS runs at a constant speed (I find around 48kb in most cases), Torrents go up and down alot of the time, I'm downloading the Knicks / Pistons 3OT game at the moment, at first it was going ok at 20-30kb, now it runs at 1kb... and I still have 400mb to go (the file is 1.73gb) so you can waste alot of time and download space with torrents, I'd advise the RapidShare way first and foremost, then Torrents as a last resort.

    Well, it all depends on your download and upload speed. When you are downloading torrents, you are essentially downloading small pieces of the file, and these small bits can then be sent to other users at the same time as you continue your download. This means that not everyone is downloading from the seeder/seeders (those that has the complete file), but rather, you might be downloading small parts of the file from someone who has the complete file, and other small parts from someone who does not have the complete file.

    In essense, it means that you will be downloading and uploading at the same time. For many internet users, this causes a problem because they usually don't have a very fast internet, and their download speed is generally faster than their upload speed. Uploading something while you are downloading usually slows down these people's download rate.

    For people like me, sitting on 10 Mbit down/10 Mbit up, this is not a problem [IMG] [IMG]

    I use ABC, I don't know where it is on the torrent download hierarchy but it's what I know how to use best.

    Yeah, that's what I use. They all work the same way, I just think it's really how you use your settings that will make your dl go faster. There are a lot of guides out there as to improving your up/dl.
