How good a buyer is Jose?

I have wondered for some time how much influence Jose Mourinho has over the purchases Chelsea have made and have these players had the massive impact that they were meant to?

The first player bought during the Jose era was Paulo Ferreria. A lot of people will give Jose credit for bringing in Cech and Robben but these transfers were agreed whilst Ranieri was in charge prior to Jose arriving.

The list of players he has brought in are:
    1. Ferreria
    2. Kezman
    3. Drogba
    4. Tiago
    5. Carvalho
    6. Nuno Morais
    7. Jarosik
    8. Smertin
    9. Del Horno
    10. Diarra
    11. Wright-Phillips
    12. Essien
    13. Shevchenko
    14. Mikel
    15. Kalou
    16. A. Cole
    17. Boulhrouz
    18. Ballack
    19. Hilario
Based on their individual performances which of the above have produced the goods? Which have given Chelsea an extra dimension they didn’t have previously? Fair enough Essien and Drogba have both shown signs of been quality purchases this season but collectively they cost around £55 million and 2 good players out of 19 is hardly an impressive buying record.

This is why I wonder who is responsible for the players Chelsea bring in? We know that Jose had some dealings with the Cole transfer as he was on the front page of most newspapers tapping him up.

If he is involved in Chelsea's buying policy then I genuinely wonder about the decisions he has made. Or is it that Jose has made a collectively great team but the players listed above must sacrifice their individual performances for the sake of it. Joe Cole has been rapped previously for show boating and Drogba mentioned last season that he was sacrificing himself for team.

Chelsea have proven they can win the Premiership playing collectively but what seems to be a more important question to Chelsea fans is... Can they win the Champions League based on collective performances alone or will Jose allow one of Chelsea's stars the freedom to individually step up and stamp their authority on key games like Ronaldinhio, Zidane, Gerrard have in the past for other Champions League winners?

Maxdaman91, you missed Big Sam. He gets about 4 an half quid to spend & Bolton have finised top half of table last 3 seasons? Thats no mean feat in itself in such a cash rich league. We aint even top!

And back to topic, b0o. I dont think Jose signs the cheques but i imagine he certainly has a say but we did have 'that bit of controversy' about getting Frank Arnesen on the payrole. Scouts dont earn there probably increased salaries by sitting at home watching 'reality TV'.

Apart from 'The Bird Man of Alca-Kez' (bless him) have really failed to string more than two good perfomances together and as we found out today, we have an 'untouchable 9'. Claude Makelele's only played 8 of 15, Cech's out for a year. Dont leave many places left for anyone else, Jose aint a 'Tinker-Man' like Ranieri. And we dont lose many matches.

Wenger, Ferguson and Rednapp never won the UEFA cup and Champions league with peanut players such as Mourinho to Porto - People seem to always miss that fact. His accomplished alot more then most managers could of dreamed off with his short period at Porto and yet he had peanutmoney.

So don't ever think Mourinho is some witty manager who got the Chelsea job out of a random hat pick... *sighs* He got the job because he was/is the best manager around. Stats will be back me up on that and i'm NO chelsea fan!
