Seriously, I am amazed at this. In Avery's first full year as the Mavs head coach, he leads them over 2 very powerful times in the Suns and Spurs, and leads them to their first ever NBA Finals. He is a spectacular coach. In his 1st full season, he wins NBA Coach of the Year, and he certainly deserves it. He is a great players coach, and he brought defense to the Mavs team.Comments.
Well, the players all had it inside them. Dirk was always good, but Avery wanted Dirk to change the way he used his good skills. Also, one thing people should note is that Nellie is actually a defensive mastermind, but because of the team in Golden State, he changed to an offensive mastermind, something like that.
I'll probably get bashed for this, but I think Avery has the potential to be regarded as one of the greatest coaches of all-time, or atleast mentioned in the same breath as Larry Brown and Gregg Poppovich (not quite up to the Auerbach's and Jackson's)... but he'll need atleast two or possibly three championship rings through coaching. However, he has a GREAT shot at winning that many championships, because Dirk is only 28, and their team is just going to get better and better.Remember... the keyword in my post was potential... I'm not saying he'll definitely be a great coach, but he has the potential to be one of the greats.
Avery changed the way the Mavs played their game, starting from last year, when he started working with the team last year in their last 17 games they went 16-1. He has another Coach of the Year in him for next year and if he continues on this streak after coaching only 1 year he could be the next Phil Jackson.
Avery is a great coach and a great guy. He has brought alot to this team Nelson lacked. Defense. He means alot to this team. Im glad to have him as head coach and no one better could take his spot when Nelson left. I hope he stays Mavs coach for a very long time. He got coach fo the year his first full season as a coach and has already brought his team to the finals. Avery has a great future listed under his name
There are some times that I really don't like Avery's coaching (during the games), like for instance when he keeps in a player who is cold, etc.BUT the things he has done for this defense is incredible, he is good at getting the team pumped, and he has gotten us to the finals, so who am I to complain?
Yeah, Justice, he only takes players out for offensive reasons when he doesn't take a good shot.Kinda like Dirk, he's had some HORRIBLE first halves, but then comes back for a monster 2nd half!
