I was just wondering how much $ US/CAN it would cost to purchase the Raptors franchise. Its a dream of mine to own them, so I've started saving lol. I read a book on the birth of the franchise, but those figures were over ten years ago. Ballpark range is fine...
Toronto Raptors NBA Maple Leaf Sports & Ent. $249 million (give or take 50mil) source: http://espn.go.com/sportsbusiness/s/forbes.html good luck bidding against the Maple Leaf Sports & Ent. empirer i don't mind joining the venture
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Purple Fever:</div><div class="quote_post">I could pensh in few bucks if you want, just guarentee me you'll fire Peddie.</div> God i would pay the $249 mil just to have peddie fired, the guy is absolute scum.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting PlaTsanity:</div><div class="quote_post">lol who has the right to fire peddie anyways? like who is at the top?</div> I think it's the board of directors for MLSE. So it would be tanenbaum and who ever else sits on that cess pool of crap.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting PlaTsanity:</div><div class="quote_post">lol who has the right to fire peddie anyways? like who is at the top?</div> Mr. Larry Tenenbaum...
On the Raps website it says that Peddie's the President of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment Management (http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/mlsel_management.html). So I suppose for him to be dismissed, he would have to be voted out by the Board of Directors (representatives from Kilmer Sports Inc, Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan, TD Capital Group, etc.). So its more than just Tanenbaum. Looks like a situation similar to Steve Belkin with the Atlanta Hawks, which may explain why the bum hasn't been thrown out yet.
The problem is really that MLSE has it in their heads that Peddie is good at making them money... which is crap. A trained monkey could sell out the leafs games and the raptors have been on a steady decline for a while now.
I got 5 bucks to pitch in...let's all funnell our money and bribe Mr.....Tenenbaum(lol).....into firing peddie!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TorontoRaps:</div><div class="quote_post">yeah, my estimate was $300 million. I was pretty close. Im almost there!</div> http://www.forbes.com/lists/results.jhtml?...ry&passKeyword= forbes lists the franchise at 297, but I think that even though that might be the listed value it would sell for more as the bobcats went for over 300 million as did dallas, years ago b4 they were good. There is a demand for professional franchises driving prices up. I think your best chance for a partial ownership of the raptors is to become a retired ontario teacher.
i have an idea!!! maybe all of us that frequent the raptors forum can put our pennies together and purchase the raptors as a cooperative.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">i have an idea!!! maybe all of us that frequent the raptors forum can put our pennies together and purchase the raptors as a cooperative.</div> I was just thinking that. What if all the Raptors fans across Canada pitch in to have equal ownership in the Raptors? Then we'll be a true "fans' team". Hoping for the day I win Super 7.
Yeah thats around the price range, Cavs were bought for 300 mill while Bucks were being sold for 150 mill... So u see Raptors around that price range.. Although the Teacher's Union of Ontario i think owns a part of the Raptors or MLSE.. something like that so u could try to "convince" the Union to fire Peddie like the superfan was doing.
even though the raps are worth about 300 mil, they probably wont seel the franchise unless its an offer they can't refuse because trust me they are rich, and most of the franchises in the nba are mostly sold because the owner is in financial debt or something
Wait... do you really think saving will make you 300 million dollars? Unless you have 299.9 million in the bank as it is ...that's a different story. Most of the time people don't start off their career as wanting to become an owner, or as an owner. They usually make a shitload of money in an up and coming industry (ie: Ted Turner with entertainment) and then shell out dollars for their favorite team (in Turner's case, the Braves). Either that or groups of uber-millionaires will come together and buy the team. So start investing, not saving! And to make enough capital to buy the Raptors you're going to need a lot more than a million per win.
If you're just buying the raptors, firing peddie wouldn't be a problem. He manages all of the MLSE, we can let him spend all his time on the leafs.
