The Sp*rs last ditch effort at keeping Bale last season, making the Champions League, came down to the wire, with Arsenal holding on at Newcastle to finish 4th, one point ahead, bouncing them from the tournament. Their "partnership" with Real Madrid, started with the Modric signing last summer, greased the wheels on a deal for Bale. They agreed to send Bale to Madrid earlier this summer and started spending. They might've asked for Ozil or di Mara as part of the deal but without Champions League football to offer they couldn't lure those players. Fearing that Arsenal might swoop in, they delayed the Bale transfer for as long as possible, irritating Madrid, who had hoped to announce him last week. Ozil had interest from other teams in the Champions League but Arsenal came out in front after Manchester United wavered on his wage demands and European teams couldn't offer him the total package. In response Madrid, Sp*urs' "partner", agreed to sell Ozil to Arsenal and sent him to London for a clandestine medical last week. They also sat him at our behest. Today's medical was meant to be in London but a television commercial shoot for Team Germany kept him in Europe. Sp*rs got what they wanted--delaying the Bale transfer until after the derby weekend. Unfortunately for them the shorthanded Gunners beat them anyway and then took advantage of the Bale sale by buying a midfielder who might now be the best in England and is arguably more proven and versatile than Bale. Sp*rs lost their talisman, lost the derby, got one-upped in the window by their rivals, and will be forever in our shadow.
