I was thinking the other night about how to get rid Brian Grant, and i thought to myself, what kind of team would take a low-talent injured wash-up worth over 12 mil a year?... then i thought to myself, what kind of team has that kind of money, or is using that kind of money. Then it came to me! The New York Knicks! They have the largest payroll (someone back me up on this) and seem to be very good at signing worthless long contract, or trading for worthless players. eg. Allan Houston and his 100 mil contract. Put two and two together and you have a perfect fit. The only way this would work is in a 3 team deal however... LAL and NYK and ?... (the above is somewhat of a joke and somewhat of a daydream and somewhat true) so i invite you to come up with your own way to get rid of Brian Grant, go on be creative...
yeah the knicks have made mistakes in the past about salaries and contracts, etc. but the knicks management signed allan houston and company before this current collective barganing agreement. so they could make more money than they were worth before the new contract. that's why we had to get rid of shaq, he had a huge contract, he wanted an extension upon another extension he had, he makes over 30 million a year that will hurt your salary cap issue if u re-sign that so it's good we started now instead of starting too late
L.A. Lakers trades: SF Jumaine Jones(7.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.8 apg in 23.8 minutes) C Chris Mihm(9.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 24.9 minutes) C Brian Grant(3.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 16.6 minutes) L.A. Lakers receives: PG Derek Fisher(11.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.1 apg in 30.1 minutes) SF Mike Dunleavy(13.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.6 apg in 32.7 minutes) SF Rodney White(5.0 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.8 apg in 11.6 minutes) C Adonal Foyle(4.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 21.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: +13.5 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and +6.2 apg. Golden State trades: PG Derek Fisher(11.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.1 apg in 30.1 minutes) SF Mike Dunleavy(13.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.6 apg in 32.7 minutes) SF Rodney White(5.0 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.8 apg in 11.6 minutes) C Adonal Foyle(4.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 21.6 minutes) Golden State receives: SF Jumaine Jones(7.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.8 apg in 23.8 minutes) C Chris Mihm(9.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 24.9 minutes) C Brian Grant(3.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 16.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: -13.5 ppg, +0.1 rpg, and -6.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED (trade courtesy of J-Rich23) We'll take your Grant contract but you take Foyle and Fish, swap SFs and first rounders and get White. What do you guys thnk? (again this trade was made by J-Rich23)
The only thing I don't especially like about your trade is Foyle. He's making a crap load of money and does exactly what Grant does....a whole lot of nothing. Fisher would be nice to have back. Gives us a steady point guard that is a whole lot better than Chucky....but again....I thought he was overpaid and his contract is once again, longer than Grants. All in all, this would be a good trade if those contracts weren't so massive and lasted so long. All in all, we might end up losing cap space in the long run if that were to be done.
Grant has no reason to want to change the contract, and thus a buyout would be tough. He's getting $30 million no matter what he does. If the Lakers want to give him $30 million to get out off the team, he might take it - but he has no reason to take less or to defer money or to otherwise help the team. A contract is binding and the Lakers took it knowing how much he'd be paid and how much he has been declining over the years. If the Lakers were really creative and other teams desperate enough, two players that are good but have contracts that value them a bit too much are Michael Finley and Wally Szcerbiak. Finley has 1 more year and $20 million more on his contract than Grant, and if he were on any other team than the Mavs and with any other owner than free wheelin' Mark Cuban, he might get traded for tax relief. You'd probably have to package a lot of talent to ship for Finley, but including Grant seems perfectly plausible. Szcerbiak is another player owed a lot and under contract longer than Grant. The Lakers might be able to do a package with the Wolves if they were receptive. The most likely scenario still seems to be Grant staying until his contract is in his final year, though, when it becomes a valuable trade commodity.
Is it possible to get rid of him? Unless the Lakers are taking back some rediculous contract, their's no possible way they could just "get rid" of BG.

While I don't agree with Houston getting all of that money this "worthles" player found a way to have two 50 point games in a season and hits clutch shots all the time. Second of all, the Knicks have 5 power forwards on them, why would they want an aging 33 year old one? The only way I see this going down is for the Lakers 2005 pick.
I guess im the only one who actually admires grants heart, but not his contract nor his body. I say call the rigatori brothers, have them sweep em.. take a bag of nickles and batteries and beat him like a sack of potatoes, then dump em in the east river. Or you could just either deal with it or scheme gene someone into taking his hefty bag of a contract.
