<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Translation:</div><div class="quote_post">Toronto Raptors sent their main man for international players to Croatia. Raptors International Player Personnel Director Scott Howard came to Croatia to negotiate with Roko Ukic. Howard first met Ukic`s agent Robert Jablan and Danko Draskulic in Zagreb. Then he came to Crikvenica on National Team camp to speak with Roko.

"Many european clubs who are interesed in Ukic woke up Toronto who sent their scout over here and give Ukic better offer. Toronto is back in the game. We expect to resolve situation in next couple of days."</div>

    I don't get what's happening...

I though he was going to play for us. This is messed up, just come over here and play Roko. (Unless he can't???)

Well, he still has the contract with the KK-Split, so we have to buy it out first if we are going to be able to sign him to a new contract. And then there is the broken promise issue that the Raptors supposedly promised Ukic that they'll take him at 16.

The whole issue stems from the fact that Ukic expected to go in the first round. He needed at the millions to buyout of his contract which is alot of money. NBA teams can only pay a max of 300 000. That means that Ukic has to pay the rest by himself, and his secondround contract doesn't give him enough money. Now we still have to sign Ukic to a contract, so I think he was entertaining offers from other teams to see how high his value is.

He can't 'entertain' offers from other NBA teams. The Raptors have rights to him and can take legal actions if another team in the NBA makes offers. NBA teams can pay up to $350,000 to buy out an international player's contract and KK-Split is apparently looking for around $800,000 in USD, not 'millions'. Players picked in second round have no 'contract', but they're entitled to be paid a non-guaranteed 1-year deal starting at $300,000. Raptors will likely sign Ukic to a 3-year guaranteed deal at around $1.5 million a season plus bonus incentives, like 'if you prove to be a starter we'll give you another $500,000. He was a projected mid-first round pick anyway, and he deserves a guaranteed contract.

Not from other NBA teams. It's probably coming from major European teams.

I don't know about the implications of other European teams giving him offers.. but I'd imagine that they can't because technically Ukic is still under contract with KK-Split for one more year.
