Makes sense how? To have a total bust who cant eat innings, has no secondary pitches, and has proven to be a sub par starter for years?
Even a QO, is a 14 mill dollar deal for a bad starter. Not good.
I didnt watch it, but unless he is saying sign him to a very reduced rate to pitch out of the pen, which is unlikely as SOMEONE will overpay him to be a starter......i just dont see it.
Of course the yankees are run like shit so there is that to consider.

My prediction used to be the yankees would offer him multi years because he is the only young starter available. He has been SO bad that i dont even think the yankees are that dumb. But i do think they will go with the QO and be stuck with him at a ridiculous rate of 14 mill, because they are still pretty dumb.

If Hughes wants to salvage his career he'll stay far away from the AL, no way he returns to NY.

And no way NY wants him back, they have a number of young starters to look at over him.

I don't even need to watch the video, it's bunk.

It makes sense that the Yankees would try to get a draft pick for him rather than just letting him go... and if you had watched it it was based on the premise that he gets offered a QO (in hopes he rejects it and get the draft picks) and then accepts and the Yanks are stuck with him...

I usually like Olney but WHAT THE HELL IS HE SMOKING?! This poor excuse of a pitcher is WAAAAY over paid now at 7M & he thinks the Yankees should tender him a 1 year deal for twice that amount? The scary thing is the Yankees just may be dumb enough to hold onto this clown but I'm hoping this is the last we see of Mr Hughes. He's a fly ball pitcher & needs to go where there's a bigger park that's pitcher friendly like San Francisco.

I can't take Olney seriously with that video blog. It's clear he had nothing else at all to talk about. It's seriously so poorly thought and makes no sense at all. If you want the draft pick why would you tender him at such a high number? If you want to take him for one more year once again why would you tender him at such a high number? It contradicts itself. If you tender him at a reasonable number and another team offers more you get the draft pick. If you tender him at the same reasonable number and no team touches him he is forced to take the tender and you deal with him for one more year at a number that doesn't kill you. Perhaps then he redeems himself to point that he has some trade value or free agent appeal after 2014. Just a completely idiotic take from Olney here.

He won't accept the QO, NY is safe there, because for one thing it will be very low, he should get a bit more on the market having decent numbers away from YS, but the main reason he will not accept is that NY would most likely put him in the pen, which is not so bad for the Yankees, he did well there, but for him not so good, he wants to start, it's not happening.

That's why Olney is being a fool. Tender him at $14 million for what reason?

Hughes is a detriment to this team. At no point should they consider that 1 year offer......but I am pretty sure thats exactly what will happen. And lord knows we have seen when the yankees are "stuck" with someone, they play them anyway and that hurts the team. This team is worried about payroll, wasting 14 mil on a BAD pitcher would be a colossal joke. Almost as bad as trading for Vernon Wells on a total waste of resources level

Nope, take him to Port Authority and put him on the first dog going out of town with Joba as a seatmate.

If the Yankees are dumb enough to keep him it better be from the bull pen. And not for the money he's currently getting. Take it or leave it. My guess is he'll leave it because as someone else mentioned he'll want to start. And some dumb poor bastard will give him what he wants. As far as Joba, I'd bet my orthopedic pajamas that he's not a Yankee next year.
