Hunter Mahan has a chance to reach a personal best this week at the PGA Championship.

He could win tournaments in consecutive starts, something that happens at times on the PGA Tour but seldom in tournaments the magnitude of the Bridgestone Invitational, a WGC event, and the PGA Championship.

"I felt like I won last week against a pretty good field," he said. "I've got the same players this week. My confidence is good, and I feel good about my game."

The last player to win a regular PGA Tour event and a major was Phil Mickelson in 2006 when he won in Atlanta the week before the Masters and then won the Masters in Augusta.

Tiger Woods won back-to-back last year at the Buick Championship in Michigan and the Bridgestone in Akron. In 2008 Vijay Singh won the first two FedExCup playoff tournaments and Camilo Villegas won the second two.
