<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A little over six weeks ago the Sixers thought they had traded Steven Hunter to New Orleans. For reasons not yet revealed, the Hornets failed to approve Hunter's physical and the 7-0 center was returned to the Sixers, where he had been at best considered a disappointment since signing a five-year free-agent deal last summer.

But since a Feb. 22 ankle injury to Samuel Dalembert, Hunter is doing his best to prove he might be worth that $17-million contract general manager Billy King gave him.

Impressed with the way Hunter played in Dalembert's three-game absence, Cheeks has kept him in the lineup. And the 24-year-old has rewarded his coach's faith in him over the last 12 games by averaging averaging 9.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 23.4 minutes a game.

''The way Steven is playing it's hard to make that switch right now,'' Cheeks said last Tuesday when asked when Dalembert might regain his starting spot. ''Steven's taken advantage of his opportunity to go out there and play, and that's what you should do when you're in that situation.''

ive said this before and ill say it again. im really questioning BK's ability at the GM spot if he thinks hunter is only worth 2 2nd rounders. the guy is young, cheap, athletic, and as we have seen in the last couple of games, talented. he may not be the best defensive player, but he is only 24 or 25 and has a lot of room to improve. he has a good offensive game and good shot blocking ability. i dont understand why BK thought he was only worth 2 2nd rounders. i understand there has been a rumor that we would package the picks for eric williams, but i think we all see clearly now who the better player is
