I'd rather deal with a no warning earthquake or chase tornadoes, than deal with hurricanes. They never seem to know hurricanes flight path/landings 'til it's too late to evac. Then it's either too late, or ya' evac and it lands elsewhere. Yesterday was the 14th anniversary of Katrina making landfall... "Remember Katrina" Pics. Out and about today picking things up, so we are prepared. And yeah they spot those damn things then track them and of course the God Damn media has to sensationalize. Hurricanes are bad but I've been through blizzards that are equal to the task. We are expecting the worst, hoping for the best.
Good news for Florida today if the forecasters are correct. Dorian has shifted to skirt the state off of the coastline with some east coast cities and as far inland as Orlando in the cone. That's the good news. The bad news as most of us know there are 62 days left in hurricane season and shit can happen.
Got a big chuckle out of a Weather Service "Update". Dorians winds have diminished enough to downgrade the storm from a category 5 to a very powerful category 4. I'm sure the residents of the Bahamas are pleased as punch to hear that. Sure feel sorry for those folks.
Jim Cantore departed Cocoa Beach 3 days ago, on a Longboard. He was observed hanging ten 1-mile off coast of Myrtle Beach yesterday morning. This morning it was reported he was ran over by a Reagan class aircraft carrier pulling out of Newport News. Trying to catch the wake off those three massive propellers, he was turned into instant shark Hamburger Helper, bullshit seasoned... On another note- I imagine the sidewalls, of this hurricane are going to Pummel and interfere with baseball on the East Coast from now through the end of the weekend.
Winds onshore are down to 40mph with gusts up to 90 mph. 40-50 mph winds here in t/Mojave is just another common breezy day; but it's not called a hurricane. Cantore last photographed 30 miles east of Currituck I-12; one hour before his untimely game of chicken with t/USS H.S. Truman near Newport News, as shown below-
