Eh, we don't need the Carolinas anyway.

Except for East Carolina, of course.

In before everyone's talking about this 3 days from now. Talking about a likely Cat 4 hurricane making landfall (it has an outside shot of hitting Cat 5 due to the gulf stream and low wind shear), and slowing down after landfall and dumping torrential rainfall. Not to mention the storm surge will be worse than usual due to the time of the month.

If it goes to the south side of the cone it'll threaten Savannah, Georgia. With all the people and history there, it'd be bad. That's very unlikely at this stage though.
Its more likely it goes to the north side of the cone. That's a horrible scenario, where the right-front quadrant (most powerful part of a hurricane) will pile up storm surge into Chesapeake Bay, which will magnify the surge due to the geography. That'd be a historic storm surge which would result in the flooding of Washington D.C.

This thing is as potentially catastrophic as Harvey and Irma. Scary.

I thought it was weakening, not gaining strength. In other words, I thought it was just like me (I let my wife open those stubborn mayonnaise jars)

It was going through wind shear.

This is my first hurricane season while living in Florida. Lucky this one missed me, but there are still 2 others brewing in the Atlantic that might still come through in the next couple weeks it looks like. I hope Florence weakens as much as possible before hitting land, but it's not looking good for the Carolinas.

First off, now that you live in Florida, I'd suggest you call it the Atlantic :ygrin:

Now, going through two of these damn things, in Texas, stay safe. Prepare, and have an exit strategy. Isaac looks like it's further south, and will likely come up through the gulf. No bueno for me. Helene may cause you some trouble though

So......if the television networks decline to hire you as a sportscaster, you’re hedging your bets with a shot as a weatherman?? Not a bad game plan...........

Helene will curve out to sea. I can't think of any other storm that formed in the Cape Verde Islands and hit the east coast. Florence is rare.

Https://www.wunderground.com/tropical is where I go. The latest article has a lively comment section that acts as more of a forum.

My advice: Always stay stocked so you don't have to worry about stores selling out. Also, learn how to read model runs so you know what might be threatening to you before (mostly) everyone else in your area does. Especially since you live in Florida, which is hard to evacuate. What part do you live in?

Many model runs have Isaac receiving through the Dominica area which would spare the US. Could definitely go GOM though, or straight through Cuba/Florida.

Get ready for a pattern where every year seems like it's worse than the year before.

Looks like Florence may just raise hell with Washington and the Pamlico, a bit to the East of your U. I sailed up to Washington once, drove through on the way to my daughters place in Raleigh.
