    OK, misleading title. Sorry.

That said, if this were to happen --- a start-up company developing a whole new fuel and car that runs on it....and had the (potential) capacity to produce on a national scale...BUT decided they would only operate as a non-union company ---

.....would you be in support of them?

I would. Would love the pressure it would put on the Big 3.

If they have a car I want at a price I want to pay it doesn't matter to me if their employees are union or not.

If another company offered similar product, I would go with the other company. If that was the only company that offered product X, and it was really a mile ahead of the rest, I would buy from that company, however, eventually another company would come along, and I would gladly switch.

By the way, I see it the same way with products that are made in the USA vs. elsewhere. If a company makes its products overseas, I will look for a company that produces locally. If there is no local company, or the quality/price of the overseas company is significantly better then I will go with the overseas company. However, once a local company comes into play that is close in quality/price, I will gladly jump ship.

I wouldn't want some vehicle using some sort of fuel I couldn't refill at nearly every corner in the city.

It'd suck running out of "gas" in the middle of nowhere.

This is what happens when you pressure the big 3, or the oil monopoly that they serve.

The Honda FCX Clarity already exists. It's a Hydrogen fuel cell car. The problem is that right now, there are very limited areas that have hydrogen refill centers. Right now, Honda, and a few other car companies are trying to figure out a way to build the infrastructure to where fuel cell cars can readily fill up at every gas station, but the investment is monumental. There are other companies that are trying to produce localized refill stations that could be purchased for the home or business. These refill stations would not just store H2 like gas stations store gas, but they would use a very limited amount of power off the grid to convert water into H2. The big hurdle here is that the price to make these H2 power stations is still too high for the public to logically consider as a gasoline replacement. But, as technology continues, and advancements are made, the price of production will drop. Eventually, and not too far out, I see these cars replacing our combustion engine vehicles.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Meyer's_water_fuel_cell

The water fuel cell is a purported free energy device invented by American Stanley Allen Meyer (August 24, 1940 – March 21, 1998). He claimed that an automobile retrofitted with the device could use water as fuel instead of gasoline. The fuel cell purportedly split water into its component elements, hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen was then burned to generate energy, a process that reconstituted the water molecules. According to Meyer, the device required less energy to perform electrolysis than the minimum energy requirement predicted or measured by conventional science.[1] If the device worked as specified, it would violate both the first and second laws of thermodynamics,[1][2] allowing operation as a perpetual motion machine.[2] Meyer's claims about his "Water Fuel Cell" and the car that it powered were found to be fraudulent by an Ohio court in 1996.[1][3]

    ...

In 1996, Meyer was sued by two investors to whom he had sold dealerships, offering the right to do business in Water Fuel Cell technology. His car was due to be examined by the expert witness Michael Laughton, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. However, Meyer made what Professor Laughton considered a "lame excuse" on the days of examination and did not allow the test to proceed.[3] According to Meyer the technology was patent pending and under investigation by the patent office, the Department of Energy and the military.[14] His "water fuel cell" was later examined by three expert witnesses in court who found that there "was nothing revolutionary about the cell at all and that it was simply using conventional electrolysis". The court found Meyer guilty of "gross and egregious fraud" and ordered him to repay the two investors their $25,000.[3]
