So I'm watching the Niners blow the NFC championship game because of the errors of one showboating idiot punt returner, and my fiancee turns to me and says, "chip kelly is leaving for the NFL?" Great timing. Great news. A punch in the gut and a slap in the face. If this is true, and chip is leaving a week before LOI day, all I can say is fuck him. What an ungrateful prick. The Ducks give him a huge opportunity bringing him in from fucking New Hampshire and this is how he repays them? How many recruits will we lose because of this? What a tool.
I understand your anger. I'm right there with you. It stings... I was chatting with a few folks who helped a bit with my issues with the timing. They basically said there is no good time to announce you are leaving, but if you do, you don't want to let the kids down that you recruited. You want them coming to Oregon knowing 100% what they are getting into and who they will be playing for. I get both sides. Also, it's refreshing to know he's leaving based on his success and not leaving due to failure. It's been a great ride. Now, if we get hammered by the NCAA because of something Chip did, he loses all respect from me....
I don't like the 49ers at all but I feel your pain man... We all just need to remember one thing... It's just sports...
Yeah but then he shouldn't be leaving this late in the game.... he completely screws us over. All the kids we recruited over the last year or two, now we don't have a coach. Now we are starting from scratch. It's like a GM leaving a week before the draft and taking all his knowledge and draft board with him. We're up the lurch.
Late to all this. While I agree it sucks big time. I can't think of any time that would have been good. If this was after loi say then you could have 22+ kids here who aren't in what they thought they signed up for. Which isn't fair to them. Like I said it sucks. But honestly it it either would suck for me who just has rooting interest in the team. But it doesn't change 3+ years if my life like it could for the kids. Id rather it suck for me and not them
I would have been fine with the loss if the Giants had just marched down the field and scored, but to lose that way? The same moron that fumbled and blew the 4 point lead, also fumbles in sudden death and gives them the ball on the 30? Who does that? The Niners shouldn't have lost that way. It's a hard pill to swallow. The defense played their hearts out all game. Hard pill to swallow.
Agreed, Wheels. But, how about this....how about the 80 some kids who Chip helped recruit, many of them directly, with promises of what "we" are going to accomplish at Oregon? Crappy, right?
Stay the year and tell people he will probably be leaving after this season. To leave this late in the game is fucking bullshit.
And then he still screws over 80 some kids, and who recruits for them, and who signs to play there, not having any clue who will be coaching? Like has been mentioned, there isn't a good time. Being a lame duck(no pun intended) coach for a year would likely hurt worse with recruiting, and still be "unfair" to those 80 some kids.
Yeah, first time this has ever happened in coaching, right. If he coached poorly, would you demand that Oregon honor the contract they signed him for? Of course not. So now that he coached well, and has an out to leave, and coach at a higher level, you're going to trash him.
Well if you're ready for the KO Thomas Tyner, the kid in your avatar, has said he doesn't know what he's going to do now http://twitter.com/#!/thomas_tyner/status/161264939581980673
Yeah I was rooting for the Giants but I respect the hell out of that 49ers defense. And that PR is going to get blasted by the media... Well here is to a good Seahawk-49er series next year!
How am I trashing him? I'm a fan and DAF member and been going to game since the early 80's. It stings. If you paid attention, you would see I play devil's advocate and actually somewhat support the timing. The program is bigger than Chip and we'll be fine. It just hurts. He could have handled it differently.
