    The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

They're my favourite band as well.

    That was very ignorant, Ming.

I'm so jealous. I knew they'd be sold out in L.A. and S.D. right when the tickets went on sale, but I waited for like 2 weeks because I needed to save some money, and they're all gone. Bummer.

It was cool down in Oz cause people who have Visa credit cards got to get their tickets early, and at a slightly cheaper price. Its a bit of a bummer cause they are playing at myer music bowl, wich isnt like a stadium but there is like 5 or 6 rows of seats and the stage at the top of a big hill sunken into the ground, then there is just grass wich is the standing spots. its different at stadiums because there is usauly the standing spots or "mosh", then surrounding it is the seats. Oh well. Oh and Tool is coming as well but i dont know what date, i really want to go to that as well. is anyone here a tool fan?

    Congrats on snabbing some tickets.

After I seen the RHCP live I was no longer a fan. I just don't like singers that use electronics to make their voices different in studio. They have some great tracks though, but it's become very repetitive over time. Got to love Flea though, excellent bassist. I'm a Tool fan, seen them live as well. Very good I might add.

Um, yeah. Excellent. Though I still haven't seen them live. They're most likely coming to my little nook next spring.

They still haven't scheduled a date in Memphis. [IMG]

I'm soooo freakin' jealous right now AKIRA... damn...

Oh yeah, and M, I agree, Kiedis can't sing worth a damn. I really got into them pre-Californication, when they were more of a rap-funk-punk-alternative fusion, and Kiedis did more 'rapping' than 'singing'.

Still, the band as a whole is f'ing brilliant, especially Frusciante. His vocals on tour are identical to his vocals in the studio, and to me, his vocals (background) are the most powerful on any of their later albums.

John is quite good yeah and same live as in studio as you've mentioned. I also listened to them first as they started rather than now. Californication was the last album I bought.

well they started off in mid to late 90's as a punk-funk(P-FUNK)band. Once they got to their album "californication" they went away from P-FUNK into a more mellow, softer, relaxed style.
BTW does anyone have Johns solo work, Its pretty awesome stuff

Actually, AKIRA, they go back a lot further than the mid to late 90's. They started the band in 1979 (going by the name "Anthym" and then later "What Is This?") and then later inked their first record deal in 1983.

Also, punk-funk is not p-funk, not even remotely. P-Funk is Parliament-Funkadelic, arguably the Chili's biggest influence in the 80's.

The reason I didn't label them with a specific 'genre' was because they've experienced so many changes as a band. To summarize their history as briefly as possible, they started off as a groove-heavy funk rock band, but on June 27, 1988, guitarist and the creator of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hillel Slovak died of a heroin overdose, leading drummer Jack Irons (more recently known for his work with Pearl Jam) to quit the band, and when they replaced the two with John Frusciante and Chad Smith, their sound changed dramatically, becoming far more melodic and centering around simpler bass lines. Up to that point, Kiedis' vocals were also mostly just spoken, but when the new members came to the band, he started to sing more and do a lot more 'rapping'. Then when Frusciante left the band in 1992, they replaced him with Dave Navarro, who brought a more psychadelic sound to the band, and at that point, Kiedis really started to just focus on singing rather than rapping. Frusciante then rejoined the band in 1999 with a minimalistic approach and gave them the sound they have today.
