Figo: I Have Fond Memories Of Barcelona

Inter and Portugal legend Luis Figo reflected today on his fine experiences with FC Barcelona, for whom he played five seasons of football...

Luis Figo told Sport.es of his fond memories of his time with FC Barcelona.

The 34 year old winger was brought to the Nou Camp by then-coach Johan Cruyff in 1995 and went on to contest five seasons in the blaugrana before making a shock switch to Real Madrid.

Becoming the world's most expensive player meant that he was ostracised by some segments of the Barcelona support, yet Figo, now with Inter, claims to have enjoyed some excellent times in Catalunya.

"They were fantastic years for us, and in the second one we just missed out on winning the league," he said.

Indeed, that second season struck a particular chord with Figo. Under English coach Bobby Robson, they may not have won the title, but the blaugrana scored over 100 league goals in a campaign that saw them win both the Copa del Rey and the Cup Winners' Cup.

"After arriving at Barcelona and not winning anything in the first year, my experience was phenomenal, as we started lifting trophies in a big way," he continued.

Other highlights included one particular game in his final season at Barcelona: the 5-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League quarter final.

"That was one of the most vibrant matches," he recalled.

"We'd lost the first leg but ended up gaining a historic result.

"We played exhibition football, passing the ball around in a way that seemed impossible."

Just a few months later, Figo did the impossible by moving to the Bernabeu, where he would win the Liga title in his first season in white.

Never liked him since he single handedly beat England lol. But he was always a good player and i can admit that. Wasn't his transfer some record before they signed Zidane?
