I hope the players decertify. I hope the owners have the courts declare their contracts void, thus ending the NBA. I hope an entire new league is started that grossly lowers ticket prices and ensures players never make more than a few million per season again.
Here here! This is the correct result. Owners and players suck wad over and over for years on end. It couldn't last. Serves them all right.
Crazy salaries, if they played this year. http://espn.go.com/nba/team/roster/_/name/por/portland-trail-blazers
My only fear is that, yes, the union decertifies, the contracts are nulled, and a much more sane economic model is put in place.... and ticket prices go up. Owners get greedy because they are hoarding all the pie. And that drives the final nail in the NBA's coffin.
Here's what I'd like to see 50 game season 12 teams make the playoffs, top 4 get first round byes No conferences or divisions Non-guaranteed contracts, but if a team cuts a player, 60% of their salary counts against their cap as dead weight All player salaries reduced about 50%, along with ticket prices.
It will if people stop buying tickets. But if they reduce the number of games, I think the players will play harder, each game will mean more, so attendance may actually go up. (unless we slip even further economically)
Actually, I think if all this came about that salaries would go down. That's part of the broken financial model. Lower salaries, more reasonable vending costs, lower ticket costs... right now it's just out of kilter.
Here's what _I'd_ like to see: all ownership like the ownership of the Green Bay Packers. Then I'd be Pro-Owner all the way!
I would like to see guaranteed contracts go away. Im so sick of seeing guys get max contracts for the next 7yrs then mailing it in till a year or two before their next contract. I think payment should in some way be related to winning. Something like the winning team gets $1million and loosing team gets $100k, players negotiate a % of the winnings based on their value to the team.
Since signing his $100+million contract Rashard Lewis went from a 20 PER player to career 14 PER with Orlando. He's the poster child for this.
PLEASE! Miles wasn't that good before. And his contract wasn't that big if you look back at it now. I can't believe the Magic paid Lewis soooo much! Now all they have to show for it is a washed up Agent-0!
Rashard Lewis wasn't that good before either, in Seattle. The 20 PER was temporary due to high expectations in Orlando, making him a focus.
