I like the fact that if the New York Yankees make it to the ALCS, Joe Girardi is going to start Gaudin instead of Joba Chamberlain.

Again, Joe Girardi is using common sense. He knows that Joba hasn’t been consistent especially towards the end of September. If you look at Joba’s box score lines, it doesn’t look like he gave up a lot of runs but that’s because he was taken out of games early because of high pitch counts and early runs given up.

Joe Girardi is using the, “What have you done for me lately” philosophy. I like the fact that Joe isn’t giving into loyalty like Joe Torre would of done. Joe Torre might of stuck with Joba starting and having Jorge catch Burnett.

Since September 8th, Gaudin has been great. He averaged giving up two earned runs per start while averaging almost six innings per start. If the Yankees could get him to pitch five or six solid innings, you can go to Joba, Hughes then Mariano. The game would basically be over by then. You know the Yankees are going to score runs.
