The New York Yankees beat the Florida Marlins by a score of 5-1. Andy Pettitte started and got the win. I honestly thought that Pettitte wasn’t going to pitch well tonight. I didn’t know about the stats about him pitching well on the road. I thought Pettitte was going to lose and lose big. I thought Burnett was going to lose tomorrow and CC would win on Sunday. Now that Pettitte has won, it changes everything. Burnett could possibly win tomorrow even if the Marlins have their best pitcher, pitching. Pettitte had a wicked curveball going and pitched a back door cutter over the plate to the right-handed batters. He stayed down and away to the batters and got better as the night went on. He only got hurt once when he left the ball in up in the zone to center-fielder Cody Ross. He was throwing all his pitches for strikes, his fastball, his cutter, his change up, and his curveball. He pitched down in the zone all game long. He didn’t walk anyone and got ahead of the batters. He pounded the strike zone because he wasn’t afraid to get hurt with the home run. He threw strikes. He had a speedy outfielder in Melky Cabrera to run down his hit balls. Pettitte wasn’t scared of the home run ball like he is at Yankee stadium. A few of those fly balls in Florida might of been a home run at Yankee stadium. His era on the road is 2.35. His era at home is 5.77. Proof that the wind tunnel is helping the batters at the New Yankee stadium and hurting the pitchers. The Yankees played little ball and hit a lot of base hits for their runs and didn’t score only on the home run. They also hit with men in scoring position in the first three innings. Florida Marlin starter Sean West threw a lot of balls down the middle of the plate and the Yankees didn’t miss. After the first three innings however, the Yankees left 11 runners on base. Nick Swisher grounded into double plays, twice. I think he needs his May bat, back. The Red Sox lost and are a joke Player of the Game: Andy Pettitte. He came through big after the Yankees lost two of three to the Nationals.
