The New York Yankees won over the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 3-2. C.C. Sabathia got the win. Like I said earlier today, I see C.C. Sabathia dominating from here on out. He was very good tonight. Sabathia threw a lot of 4-Seam fastballs and almost all of them were in play for outs. Almost all of his strikeouts were the result of a filthy slider that had a 10″ to 11″ break on it. He had a nice bite to his slider with great location. His change up was very wicked. When he uses his change up effectively, it makes his 2-1 fastball more relaxed because his change up is eight mph slower than his fastball. He was throwing his change up on 2-0 counts which confused Toronto especially the right-handed batters. Sabathia throws his change up enough were batter have to respect it. This is unusual because pitchers that throw in the low 90’s will throw a lot of change ups. CC has great velocity and a lot of pitchers with great velocity will work off of their slider. The home run he gave up was in the middle of the plate and it was down. He missed his location because Cervelli wanted the ball outside. In the seventh inning he was missing location but threw a change up to Aaron Hill in the biggest moment of the game with two outs and the bases loaded. Hill then grounded out to third base. It was a great effort by C.C. Sabathia and he also showed mental toughness as well. That seems to go unnoticed at times. Mo closed it out by throwing all cutters. What about Hideki Matsui? He comes through when you need a hit. He’s been really clutch and that home run in the eighth inning sealed the game. He hit a home run off a slider which is one of Jesse Carlson’s main pitch. Player of the Game: C.C. Sabathia. Mental toughness, great slider, change up and fastball. Awesome.
