I think it's important to define a 'term' as on word, even if that word consists of one character.
Multiple words are referred to as an expression. A term is a single word expression so expressions include terms but terms do not include multiple word expressions.

Trump wouldn't know the difference between a term and an expression from a stick of wood. He's got to rank as one of the world's most stupid people.

 

Pardon me, but the term you are misusing is grammatically known as an expression. Ask anyone who works with computer science and it's heavy reliance on grammar. There's even a branch of mathematics that deals with grammar.
