I wonder if we're still supposed to be "building with Kirk"

Pax made this comment a couple of years ago and I'm wondering if they still have the same sentiment

The fact of the matter is that our guards , once our supposed strong point , have been exposed for how flawed they are ( Gordon ) and how mediocre they are ( Hinrich )

Let's get real about who we're supposed to be building with

The keepers , in order , should be are

    Deng
    Thomas
    Noah
    Gordon
    Nocioni
    Gray
    Sefolosha

Short term vet plug ins like Joe Smith are neither keepers or cast offs

And let's face it ..no one is going to take Ben Wallace off our hands

Which leaves the question open ..What could we realistically get for Kirk Hinrich ?

I guess it really depends on what type of team we want to be

We have these great athletes and gym rats that are supposed to be able to run everyone else out of the gym but we have guards that can't push in transition , overdribble the crap out of the ball and have been woeful in their brain fart like turnovers ...in a season where a bit of defensive pressure has been turned up on the perimeter and they haven't been able to respond

A push for Pau Gasol does make a lot of sense if he was available but can we bear it for it to be for Luol Deng . We don't want to lose Luol , but Wallace, Gasol and Nocioni complement each other wonderfully well .

Hinrich then makes sense with this group and perhaps Gordon then does too with Gasol's post game and the 2nd and 3rd perimeter threat with Hinrich himself and Nocioni

You then have Gray and Smith to back up this style of line up and Noah, Thomas to provide defense and Duhon and Sefolosha to provide ball handling and perimeter defensive pressure

But...... if we really want to be the fast breaking team that we were supposed to be building ..we would try and work a deal for someone like a Corey Maggette for Kirk Hinrich and turn the point over to Chris Duhon

For all the purposeful chemistry building this team in how it has been built seems remarkably off kilter

So who are we supposed to be building with Pax ?

Man, if we drafted Gay instead of Thomas, then trading Deng in a package for Gasol would have already happened.

As much as we've tried to phase out our dependency on Duhon, it sure seems like we have a better chance to win when he does get the PT.

I could see either Du and Hinrich or Du and Gordon as the backcourt, but I don't see us with a viable 3rd guard in the depth chart if we traded Hinrich (or Gordon).

    Ya think?

    He's still being announced last.

As godawful crummy as Kirk has been, I don't know if I'm ready to flush him. Push come to shove I just can't believe he's as awful as he's been the last two months. He's young and unless he's secretly snorting mountains of coke I expect he'll snap out of it.

And when he does, he's our only guard that really has good size and athleticism. I've always thought he's kind of a tweener, but put him with a guy with good size and handle, like Brandon Roy or , and he'd still be very good.

People always want to talk about Gordon as the sixth man, but Kirk's always fit that mold much better IMO. He's a guy who can step in and play pretty well at either guard position (at least, when he's playing well. Lately he's just sucked something fierce).

I also don't think he's the guy Memphis would want for Gasol. They've got so many small guards anyway (and good ones) I don't see why they'd want to invest in Kirk.

If I were them, I'd be more interested in Tyrus or Noah, or possibly even Wallace (since his contract is a year shorter than Gasol's), but I'm sure they could do better than Wallace. Whether they'd want the other guys, I think, would just depend on how they evaluate them.

I'd put Hinrich after Deng, Gordon, Thomas, Sefolosha.

Noah, Nocioni and Gray, you can find in the draft every year. (or trades with other teams)

I could see them wanting Deng as the centrepiece .

Deng, Noah and Duhon does make some sense for them and us

In return we get Gasol and Conley Jr

I would see Conley Jr as our "point guard in waiting" a super quick push guard but who also can create out of dribble penetration

As Conley Jr matures we use Kirk to target a big athletic scoring guard Maggette type which is around where Kirk's market is .

Gasol with Ben Wallace and Joe Smith upfront ( backed by Gray ) is win now with Tyrus Thomas and Andres Nocioni at forward and Hinrich Gordon and Conley Jr at guard backed by Thabo ( with Hinrich to be ultimately replaced with a Maggette type )

The real problem with this team is in our flawed guards and the rest of the team is suffering because of it

Our backcourt is really short, and everything has to go right to make up for it. I agree with you, Abe.

I think if we are going to trade Kirk straight up for someone, Ron Artest has to be the guy.

    PG-Ben Gordon/Chris Duhon
    SG-Ron Artest/Thabo Sefolosha
    SF-Luol Deng/Andres Nocioni
    PF-Ben Wallace/Tyrus Thomas/Joe Smith
    C- Aaron Gray/Joakim Noah

Actually, Paxson should start pushing for that trade now. That would be such a great defensive team, and it would one of the top teams in the East I think.
