<font size="1">Thanks to the RealGM boards for some of the information.</font>

Several Turkish Newspapers reported that the Sixers are trying to get Ibrahim Kutluay. The Sixers are trying to convince ?lker, Kutlay's team to release him. He is tied down to them until 2007. With Allen's recent comments in Athens about more possible moves, this one could come in handy. He has been quoted as saying that the Sixers are one of the favorites in the east, and that they should make a move soon.

Watching him play in the USA vs. Turkey game, he shows a lot of promise. At 29 years old, he has a veterans leadership, and an amazing shot. If any time is right for him to get a shot in the NBA, it is now. Iverson has also been quoted by Turkish newspapers as wanting Ibrahim to play with him after seeing his performance in the exhibition games. Where this gets really interesting is that Billy and Jim were both at the game versus Turkey, maybe trying to get a closer look at Ibrahim.

One issue with this is money, as of right now we can only offer him 1.6 million (LLE) which is a bit low for a European player at his level. However he has been quoted as saying that he would like to play in the NBA, and that if the Sixers were interested they could talk:

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ibrahim Kutluay:</div><div class="quote_post">There are too many offers for me, it is possible for me to go the US.
I have a contarct with Ulkerspor, if these teams officially ask for me from the club,we can talk. I can easily play in the NBA.</div>

Here is a quote from a poster on the RealGM boards, a Turkish poster who has some insight about Ibrahim:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting azk:</div><div class="quote_post">dont think this will happen
ibo is great player ,best scorer in Turkey
he's a shooting guard ,he can play small forward too
his scoring is as good as stojakovic especially he's better or equal outside shooter to peja.
his defence is better than him when motivated
he can create his own shot also he can dribble
the problem is ibo is a star in turkey and 29 years old
he doesnt want to leave hic current star position and sit on the bench for an nba team.
i saw this news on turkish newspapers i want ibo as a sixer but i dont think this will happen
he should try his nba chance before, instead he played final four in euroleague and won championship torphy in europe
last game against US Ntaional team he scored 27 points and 7/10 3 points</div>

Even with azk's comments, some good, some bad, I think he would pack up and leave to play in the NBA. Remember, the NBA is the best league in the world for professional basketball, while it has some cons, it still attracts many prospects, and superstars like Ibrahim from around the world. He has won a championship in Turkey, and numerous awards, so his next step would be to suceed on the NBA level. In my opinion, I do not think he could turn out to be a great player because he is aging, and having to adjust to a new playing system, new culture, new philosophy, etc. Having to rebuild your game is hard, especially in a short period of time.

    Opinions?

I would really like to see Kutluay play here, he would fit well in O'Briens system, and him and AI would compliment each other nicely. We need another good shooter, and that would be a nice pickup.

    C- Dalembert
    PF- Thomas
    SF- Iguodala or Robinson
    SG- Kutluay
    PG- Iverson

    Not too bad.

The Sixers always try to go after people I have never ever heard of. Sigh.

Eh.... 29 years old. If they sign him he would be a twenty nine year old rookie that is funny lebronjames 19 would be a vertern in nba years compared to him. I dont really know much about the guy to give a good analyst of if it would be a good or bad trade, but alot of teams these days are signing european players just because some of them have had great success in the nba not really because they think they are really talented. I think this has become a thing that GM's often do now a days in the NBA some/ most of time unwisely hoping they will get a dirk or peja. IDK have to see how it turns out he is a big man something the team is looking for.

Click the link it says right there he is a forward it says he is 187 not sure how tall that is so I am just saying he is probably a power forward could be a small forward though, but he is not a guard.

I can't really say he'll be a good veteran is it will be his rookie year even at 29 years old. From his performance at Turkey, I think he is pretty goood. 1.6 Million should be enough. Euro players never really ask for a lot of money especially in their roookie years. I don't think he should start though if we get him. I would like him to add some more depth to our bench. I really hope Glenn gets traded soon though.

    is that a misquote?

i'd give him a chance, anyway. we can always acquire another big man through a trade.

If he's 187 cm's then he's around 6'2-6'3.He's height normal for a small fowrward in Europe but could you imagine him in NBA at SF If he's 187 cm's? [IMG]

I wouldn't mind seeing the 76ers giving this guy a shot. Hey, the 76ers haven't ever really dipped into foreign talent and I think they should start eventually because as you all see in the Athens games that there is tons of talent over there. And this guy would be dirt cheap to pickup.

That's a very bold statement by Allen Iverson. He's already stated that he feels a championship is coming his way, and according to him with the signing of Ibrahim Kutluay, the Sixers are title contenders. Unless, if he plans on having an MVP type season next season, I don't what he's thinking.

Allen Iverson hasn?t been the one to trigger moves in the past, while this season he's been a little more active and more concerned about the team. So now that he?s getting more involved with the organization, and he's heavily considering this guy, Billy King should do something about it.

This is all pretty crazy to me to hear AI pretty much pleaing to the front office to make an attempt to snag this guy. I really didn't pay attention to Kutluay during the Turkey games because I was a work. This guy must be a good quality player if AI sees this in him. Can someone please describe his play in the 2 games against the US team?

    Ibrahim Kutluay Update

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ibrahim Kutluay was the first Turkish player to win a Euroleague championship, and the first Turkish player to play on a Greek First Division team in any sport. The question now is whether he might become the first Turkish player to join the 76ers.

It's not imminent, but it has become a possibility. All we know for sure is that Sixers president/general manager Billy King and coach Jim O'Brien met last week with Kutluay, a shooting forward with Ulker Spor Kulubu of Istanbul. The 6-5 Kutluay, an excellent shooter with international three-point range, had two strong performances for the Turkish National Team in exhibition losses to the U.S. Olympic team.

King, at the Olympics in Athens, Greece, confirmed the meeting. But at this point, the Sixers have 16 players under contract, one above the NBA regular-season roster limit (12 active, a maximum of three on the injured list). They would have to make other moves before considering an offer to Kutluay. One likely move would involve the retirement of center Todd MacCulloch, who has been unable to play because of what several medical specialists have diagnosed as Charcot Marie Tooth, a genetic disorder affecting his balance and coordination.</div>

    <div align="center">Link</div>

Well it seems as things are getting a little more serious between Kutlay and the Sixers. Billy King has confirmed a meeting with him and may be looking to make some moves in order to sign Kutulay. Iverson is serious about this guy and so are the Sixers, so hopefully if we do acquire him he will do us some good.

If we do make a pitch at him, that means Todd MacCulloch would have to retire so that would make only 15 players under contract, and possibly a deal that would send John Salmons and Greg Buckner to another team in exchange for one player. But whatever the case may be I?m hearing good things from this guy, and I would really want him on the Sixers.

    Hmmm
I was pretty sure all this talk was bs. Looks likke he might actually come here. I'm sure he'll do great. We shold trade away Kevin Ollie, Buckner, and Brown, Robinson and I will be happy with our off season. Todd MacCullogh most likely is going to retire anyway so Ya. Looks very nice to me and he is a great player. I think this Turkish player will do good, but I'm not sure.
