http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/1/29/742079/blasphemy read the article 1st b4 commenting (it really is necessary) shaq wants to break his tie with duncan for number of career nba championships (he said that motivates him) shaq has a better chance in pdx than in phx (i think so) shaq excels with great shooting guards (kb24, dwade) no one else can mentor greg better than him (who else?) he can coach our bigs as soon as he retire as a player (unless he wants to be a police officer like he said) games go slower in the playoffs (players are tired by then =) shaq and oden can play 24 minutes each (not bad at all) crazy idea but 'd do it if ever the opportunity presents itself (as long as our core remains here in the process like the article said) how about u??
Re: Shaq to Blazers Sure, if it didn't cost us anything major. Like, Brandon, LaMarcus, Greg, Rudy, Batum or Bayless. And at this point in Shaqs career, it wouldn't. How about Joel, Travis and Raef for Shaq a public apology to Sabonis, and the requirement that he actually get in shape.
Re: Shaq to Blazers Because Shaq has too much pride to come off the bench. Would you want Shaq stunting Oden's growth by having Oden come off the bench of a 1 and a half seasons?
Re: Shaq to Blazers I thought Shaq would've been great for Greg. I still do. I don't think it's worth it for RLEC and whatever group of lesser players we put in. I wanted this trade two summers ago. Contractual stuff aside, I fully think Shaq could play good minutes for us. He'd be rested in back-to-backs, big time playoff presence, have a 3-man rotation for the next two years of Shaq, Oden and LMA. I think he'd really defer to Roy and work well with LMA. He's even stopped that "rest every back-to-back" And let's get something straight...I'm not sure that there's been another center in the last 30 years that's combined personality/star wattage with dominant play like Shaq, and that Greg could definitely be on that level. Not Ewing, Parish, Kareem (at the end), Olajuwon, Admiral, etc. In the "mentorship" aspect, I think there's a lot more Greg can learn from Shaq than from Przy. (Though I love me some Przy). Blake, Outlaw, (Frye or Diogu) and Joel for Shaq and Barnes works under trade machine and roster sizes. Then we'd still have RLEC, Barnes, Sergio, Webster, Diogu as trade bait for someone like Hinrich, Butler, etc. Or you could include both Diogu AND Frye and get Grant Hill back (which I'd really like) and either Barnes, Amundsen or Tucker for salary.
Re: Shaq to Blazers Oh I get it.............. O..........Neal!!! Very nice! What if his name was Shamus Tyrone Jackson?
Re: Shaq to Blazers I understand what he's saying.... but no. Yuck. I guess if you could get him without using RLEC.... but I wouldn't waste LaFrentz on Shaq. I don't think Shaq would make a big enough difference on this team to warrant the trade, and if we want to hire him to coach Oden, do it after he retires.
Re: Shaq to Blazers I'm skeptical that Shaq would mentor Oden. Shaq doesn't seem like the mentoring type. More like the type who would make it his mission to try and embarrass Greg in practice, to prove a point. And considering Shaq is so much larger and more experienced, he probably could do that. Oden might learn from playing Shaq in practice, but I doubt Shaq would be trying to help Oden learn. I think Shaq would cost more than he's worth. Since he's still moderately effective and has the aura of (formerly) one of the most dominant players ever, I think he'll always carry a premium on top of his actual value. I think the Suns would view him as an asset to get a significant young player or two and want at least one of Bayless, Rudy or Batum. That's too much for a season or two of Shaq as a backup.
Re: Shaq to Blazers I would take Shaq in a heartbeat. He'd be a great backup center. Kind of like Bill Walton was for the Celtics.
Re: Shaq to Blazers But would he accept being a backup? The big Shaqastotle would be outraged and injure Oden in practice. I'm not kidding either.
