i know he can score 20 a game if he gets that kind of play time, i realllyy hope he does though what do you think his playing will be?
Well, I dont know much about the Hornets but I would assume he would get the same or less minutes from last year because of the new players who play the same position. The new Euro guy (dont know his name) will probably be a sixth man, Mason may slide up to the two when Butler comes in, and Snyder could come in for a few minutes a game.
I expect him to get some major minutes and a great year, and he will drop 50 points this year, mark my word.
Smith needs to develop an outside game. Right now, he's just depending on his quickness and explosiveness to get to the rack, but he would be much harder to guard if he gains a dependable perimeter game. Playing next to Desmond Mason, though, will be very helpful as both players have similar styles.
I think he will get around 38-40 minutes a game the Hornets really have no real depth or any one coming off take minutes from him. It all depends how good his conditioning is however, if he plays those kind of minutes, and is not effective he will see the minutes decrease. The three man combo of Paul, Smith, and Mason are really the only sources of scoring the Hornets have. PJ Brown can average a double double again this season, but he is not a prolific scorer he gets his points off of rebounds more than anything. Lampe might step up though and become a good offensive player this season. Maybe Speedy Claxton will also emerge as a scorer backing up Chris Paul. Paul probably will not be playing 40 minutes a game this season few rookies due.

His percentages are decieving because he takes many ill-advised shots, but his stroke is solid, especially for a high school kid. I don't know if Smith will get 40 minutes a game - that's asking a lot for him to increase his minutes by 15.5. It's not like he's going to be needed to win many games this season; the Hornets are still probably around a 25-win team at best. I think Scott will probably be giving him about 30 minutes or so. It'll also be hard for him to get 40 minutes with Desmond Mason, Arvydas Macijauskas, and Kirk Snyder all playing that guard position.
What MrJ said. JR Smith was the best shooter to be in last years draft but he just has no one on his team that can shoot so he was forced to jack up all of those ill-advised shots at the end of the shot clock, at the start of the season his percentage was horrid and slowly it got better, and better. A few years down the road the NBA is JR's he's gonna run it, thats how good this guy will be. Get ready for the takeover.
I don't see JR getting 40 min a game. I think somewhere between 30-35 is reasonable though. And on another note, he does have a good jump shot. He was one of the top shooters to come out of last years draft, but due to his ill advised shots, he had a low FG%. If he stays more under control this year, which I believe he will, his FG% will go up and he'll pour it in from the arc like he did in high school.

Just because he's young doesn't mean he'll improve, it ALL depends on his work ethic.
With no jumpshot and alot of dribbling thats gonna equal turnovers. Im sure he would drop at least 17. But his personal statline is the hornets least concern as of right now. GL Hornets
