http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--b...rade-for-atlanta-hawks-guard-joe-johnson.html Looks like JJ is goin to Brooklyn. His regular season and playoff numbers have been steadily declining (although theyve been coincidently been consistent) yet Atlanta has found a trade partner. This gives me hope (albeit empty hope) that we can find someone to take Boozer. Obviously the trade hasnt happened yet so we have to see what BK offers Atlanta, then maybe we might have a good gauge on what we'll get back for Boozer.
I see it differently than you. 1). It hasn't happened yet, and talking about trading Joe Johnson and it actually happening are very different things. 2). The article states the trade would be a salary dump. There's not a lot of skill in that, and it's not something we should root for to happen to us. By definition it means giving up more talent than you take back and making your basketball team worse. Sometimes it's the best thing to do. But not for this Bulls team. We've had the best record in the NBA 2 years running, reside in a big market, and the team profits 50-75 million every year. Why root for a salary dump? We're better with Boozer than without him, and I'd only want to trade him if it made the team better in some way. I'd rather not make charitable contributions to the title aspirations of our competitors, thank you.
I know the trade hasnt happened yet, but theyre in talks for it and theyre not waiting for DWills blessing to do it. And I bet Atl gets serviceable players back that will fill roles. Im not rooting for a salary dump and we've been better in the regular season with Boozer, but not in the playoffs. I'd rather trade him and bring in other players that can fill roles for us than have another 2 years of "we had the best regular season record and thats all that matters, yo" type of attitude after losing in the playoffs. After hearing that Ive been wanting his head. And the front office is dumping salary already, they might not bring back 3 players who had pivotal parts in our success because of cap reasons. We can get some ppl that will help out from Brooklyn.
Agree completely. It's not that trading Boozer is impossible, but rather that trading Boozer for a player(s) who make the team better is impossible.
Joe Johnson has a horrible contract and he is not all-star caliber. The Nets are not using their salary cap wisely, but I guess they were desperate to keep Deron.
I'd argue with this. The Nets are using the cap wisely, it's just what's wise for the Nets isn't wise for any other team. There isn't another team in the NBA that has more growth potential than the Nets. New Yorkers love their sports, and the Kicks have basically had a monopoly since the beginning of the league. I think the Nets could take that pie, and earn back every dollar tax or otherwise three fold in team value, ticket sales, and the like.
They have minimized potential for winning if they use their salary cap like this. Making money is a completely different matter. The Knicks are a valuable franchise but they aren't run very well.
