If Kobe opts out this summer, we have a legitimate shot at Lebron.

Has anyone considered this? I don't know how I feel about this. I love Kobe, but dude's clearly in the tail-end of his prime.

The only shot we have at LeBron is if Kobe and LeBron both agree to a sign and trade.

I dont think Kobe wants to go to Cleveland.

Huh? Lebron is unrestricted. Kobe, if he opts out, he'll be unrestricted too. Cleveland can pay Lebron more than anyone else can, but by that rationale CLE > NYC, LA anyway. Given the endorsement opportunities in LA and NYC, and playing for a team like the Lakers or the Knicks, it's foreseeable that Lebron might pass up the extra dough in Cleveland.

I believe Kobe will come back to the Lakers, but I wouldn't be surprised if he opted out as leverage to get Dr. Buss to pony up more money.

Do you ever contribute anything substantial? You're the most worthless poster here, by far.

(And here, I'll pre-empt your "no." rebuttal. You're clever for a barista.)

Even if Kobe opts out and we don't re-sign Farmar the Lakers are slightly over the salary cap at $59,044,940. Shannon Brown would need to opt out of his deal which would put us just below the current cap at $56,834,940. However all indications are the salary cap will be lowered again to $55M or less.

Right, Shape, but we're going to be over the salary cap anyway. We're going to take on a max player -- whether that's Kobe (likelier) or someone else remains to be seen.

The rule is you can only go over the cap to sign your own players unless you use the MLE or work a sign & trade. Unless LeBron agrees to sign a 1 year deal for the MLE and then gets a mega deal the following season it won't work.

No problem bro. This is the reason teams like the Knicks, Bulls etc. were trying to build up cap space for this summer.

Kobe has a lot of leverage over our team right now.

And who doesn't contribute? At least I know the simple rules of signing FA's.

    And, no.

No wonder why he got stuck in Houston, he doesn't even know the simple rules of free agency!

It's cute when you bring out your lap dog LO, Mamba.

And you can pretend to know the rules of free agency all you want, the point still stands: you never contribute anything of value here. Now make me a macchiato.

Right...him and his 35,000 posts contribute nothing...and there's NO reason at all why we made him a moderator...none...whatsoever.

Seriously, if you're going to troll around and attempt to piss off mods, just leave. We don't need that kinda crap around here.

Now, if you want to make actual contributions here that don't involve attacking other members, feel free to stay. But if not...do us a favor and don't come back.
