He'd play more minutes in New York. 5 fouls/game there.

1 technical foul, for excessive celebration after he was allowed to bulldoze each opponent for dunks.

I'm sick of threads like this. Oden is NOT being mistreated by the refs. His foul woes are partically because his teamates are consitently getting blown by on the perimeter, his defensive on ball footwork is terrible, he tries to cut someone driving to the basket with his hips (hip check) and he reaches. He reaches in, he reaches over the back . . . he makes more stupid fouls than anybody I can remember. Yeah, he's had some ticky tack fouls called too, but that's a gross overstatement to say the refs are even a factor. He's his own worst enemy.

Refs call rookies for fouls and dont call fouls when the rooks are fouled....thats just how it goes.

Sorry Kay, but I don't agree with you. Sure, some of them are blatantly his fault, but others are BS (like the offensive fouls especially). One example this evening; Oden backed down, went to the hole, was fouled (no call), and then they call a foul on him. It was bullshit.

I think the rest of the NBA knows how to treat Oden, pretend like he's a monster. Everytime he looks at you, you flop, get him out of the game. They can do it because the refs are a fucking joke.

oden does commit fouls that are entirely his fault and he also commits fouls where the blame should be placed on his teammates, but it is absolutely ridiculous to have watched the games and say he's not being mistreated by the refs. as far as i've seen oden gets called for more ticky tack foul calls than anyone else in the league. part of it is that he's a rookie, part of it that he's a big center, probably part of it is the reputation he's gotten now that he fouls a lot.

you could say that if he just avoided the fouls that are entirely his fault, that he'd be able to get a few more minutes in per game and you'd be correct but let's not pretend like this is all on oden.

Oden's getting called on some offensive bullshit calls, trying to gain position and because he's so much stronger than the rest they flop, or exaggerate. It's garbage, and the ref's need to fucking give the whistle a break because this aint the WNBA.

Fuck the WNBA is probably tougher than this league as it is. disgrace of a ref job tonight and other nights on some of Odens stuff.

Dont get me wrong in thinking that he's perfect, but he doesn't nearly foul as much as the next guy.

I don't think his treatment from the refs has anything to do with the city he plays for. I'm a huge Oden defender but Kaydow is somewhat correct. Yes some of the fouls I think are bullshit - typical rookie hazing - but a lot of the time he is committing these fouls. He's just trying to learn how to play in the NBA, move his feet, deal with floppers who can't play him straight up, still gaining his explosiveness back, etc.

The good news is that the NBA is so biased towards stars that once he makes a name for himself, just as Brandon has, he'll start to get a lot more respect from the refs, just as Brandon has. We're the youngest team in the league, currently playing 4 rookies substantial minutes, we simply aren't going to get alot of respect from the refs. I thought the overall officiating last night was very one-sided and although Greg did commit 'most' of his fouls, the few I thought were bullshit were enough to effectively take him out of the game early. It sucks, but I'm positive it'll get better because that's the nature of the NBA and I think in a few years it will be biased in our favor.

I guess we can compare Oden to Shaq in foul outs in their first year? I don't remember Shaq fouling out unless he was playing Hakeem, Patrick or occasionally ZO, not very often though! He never fouled out or got in early trouble to no name centers like Collison or the fucking Bird Man!!! Am I wrong?

I've said this before and I'll say it again, Paul Allen needs to market this team better. Once we are a house hold name, this shit will end. If they can do it in broke ass New Orleans with CP3 it can be done in PTOWN!!! Oden needs national commercials, and so does ROY!!!! Nike needs to be using their home town heroes more and having a clever Oden Microsoft Vista add wouldn't hurt either. Durrant has had one with the whole jersey thing, time for Oden and Roy!

The fact that the question here is if New York or LA had him would he be cleaning up on both ends but can't here makes me sick! Not that I disagree with the question cause the poster is RIGHT. It's just this is supposed to be on hoops not fucking image.

That said if it's on money and perception we have wealthiest owner in the league to make this work for our team!

Fuck gettting a trade, buy a national add for Oden. Would do more in the long run I think!

Did you watch last night's game?! Brandon gets ZERO respect from the officials, at least compared to other All-Stars. Take the OKC game - Russell Westbrook (a rookie, you know, the type that can't get any calls) was getting calls against Brandon.

I know I'm going to get torched on this but screw it. I've been watching the Blazers since the late 80's and even when we've had great teams the refs have lost their fucking whistles when it comes to our team. Saw it against the Pistons in the finals, the Bulls and Jordans imaginary fouls, and the Lakers with Shaq doing exactly X 10 what Oden is doing now and take five steps to a layup and get the foul shots to boot. Never a fucking call!!!!

This is a Stern thing!!! Make no mistake about it. The refs only answer to that sneaky little worm. I don't know if Stern got burned in business by PA and Bill Gates or what, but Portland hasn't gotten a fair shake since that piece of crap took over the NBA! Stern is the NBA's version of Vince from the WWE!

Get rid of that worm, put in a guy like Buck Williams and let basketball go back to being a sport rather than an form of entertainment.

Coaches are fired, players traded, franchises moved, can't we get a new Commissioner? Goodness!!!! Talk about job security!

Well I've already said I thought the officiating was one-sided last night, doesn't change the fact that overall Roy is getting more respect from the officials than he did his rookie year (may not be saying much, I admit). But he is 17th in the league in FT attempts, ahead of guys like Duncan & Iverson.

As for Westbrook, he leads all rookies in attempted FT per game, so it's not just against Roy and it's not just against the Blazers... Despite their limited minutes, Greg is 6th and Bayless 11th for rookies.

I just think in general it's a little silly to assume the NBA has an agenda to screw Portland over, especially against teams like OKC & Goldenstate. I think the officiating in the NBA is horrible, but I watch enough non-Portland games to know it's not just us, the refs are a joke across the league.
