Let me first start off by saying that I am not saying the 49ers will win the Superbowl, nor am I saying they won't. This is purely hypothetical. So here goes. If the 49ers win the superbowl, will Alex Smith shed the bust label? I guess a sub-question would be: Do we place more emphasis on stats or superbowl wins in determing whether someone busts or not at the QB position? I am inclined to believe that, while he hasn't lived up to the number 1 overall status, meaning that he has not put up prolific numbers like Manning, he would in my estimation, shed the bust label. I get comparing him and Manning together is flawed logic, but it is compelling. Manning is obviously far and away a better QB than Alex. However, they would be equal in SB wins. For those who believe that SB wins are the most crucial aspect of a QB's performance, would you have to agree that he would shed his bust label if he won a SB? ___________
