I know these "what if" threads can get on people's nerves, but I was wondering if you all thought Gasol would be an All-Star if the Grizzlies were in the East. I think he would ultimately be pushed out of contention by a guard playing out of position, but he may be considered a backup Center. I think most people would take Gasol over Magloire, would you?

I'd take Gasol in a sec. Pau will be one of the top 15 players in the East if the Grizzlies were there. IF...........

Come on Wave, your catchup threads to get closer to the Minnesota forum have to be better than this. Although, I would take Pau over Magloire too.

Memphis in the East would be just like the top 10 Western teams, they'd all be playoff teams. It is that simple.

What are you talking about? There's no NBA teams playing basketball for the next four days, so I thought I might as well start some A.S.G. discsussion. This is a question I've always asked myself.

I didn't mean anything by the statement. I'm just joking around. This thread did feel forced though, it seemed like it was posted after almost the same one was posted in the Minnesota forum. Now that I look at the post times though, you were first. So nevermind, my bad. [IMG]

I'm always interested in what-ifs too, especially in sports. It's fun to argue about something that you can't prove. Trying to get somebody to agree. I don't think there is any doubt whether Pau Gasol would be selected over Magloire.

If the Grizzlies were in the East, we'd have a much better record. Out there, Gasol, Swift, Wright, and Outlaw would all be legit centres. Out west, they're undersized and take a pounding. Not to mention their strength of schedule is a lot higher than it would be if they were in the Atlantic. Travel, oddly, would be reduced as well. Memphis is a lot closer to NO, ORL, and WAS than it is to Portland, Seattle, or Minnesota.

I don't know if they'd have an allstar, though. Carter, O'Neil, Pierce, Martin, Artest, and McGrady are all still better/more popular than he(Gasol) is. Unless they pulled a Ben Wallace and listed him at a position he doesn't play just to get him in the game....
