Who would you want to select? It's not too far ahead to look at, because we are going to be in the lottery. I've been looking at Chad Ford's ESPN mock draft's on the lottery game they created, and he believes the Raps will or should take LaMarcus Aldridge if they do get the #1 pick. I really don't see a need for Aldridge. He's a very talented big, but we already got Chris and Charlie, and Aldridge isn't a C. That would really be 3 PF's, though very versatile, starting on our frontline. Longterm, I see CV staying at the SF, so selecting Rudy seems a bit iffy to me since Gay is a pure 3. If our longterm plans are to start CV at the 4 and Bosh at the 5, then I would definitely select Gay, but seeing as we are in desperate need for a real big man in the middle, I doubt that would happen. Though with Colangelo as the new GM, you don't know if he's goin to use Bosh as a C like he did with Amare last year. Which leads me to Adam Morrison. To me he seems like the best option if we get the #1 overall pick. Although he is not necessarily what we need at the moment, he gives us a legit #2 scoring option behind Bosh, and he can create scoring oppurtunities for himself and his teammates. Core going into next season PG-James/Calderon SG-Morrison/Peterson SF-Villanueva/Graham PF-Bosh/CV -C-FA/Bosh This is <u>if</u> we do get the #1 pick. Although right now it seems unlikely we would get the #1 pick, the Bucks did get it last year with the 6th? best record, so it is a possibility. I started this thread just to get an idea of what you guys want the Raptors to do if we do get the #1 pick, because their are a few interesting scenerios.
I'd say trade down a few spots and then take Rodney Carney. We'd get someone we could use as well as acquire extra assets.
I'm also pretty high on Carney, but he's a 3 too. Morrison seems like the best fit out of the three, but I'm concerned that our 2,3, and 4 will all be weak defensively. I wouldn't mind trading down.
I would take Rudy Gay w/ the top pick. I think he could be a special player. In general, im not too high on this years draft class, i wouldn't mind trading the pick for an established NBA Player or trading down and drafting a pg.(Gibson, Rondo or Foye are all fine w/ me) and picking up a role player in the trade. Must admit i haven't seen enough of Adam Morrison this year. I have been trying to watch him during the tournament and see if he can translate his scoring at NCAA level to an NBA level. Also his 5 for 17 perfomance against Indiana was pretty weak, i look forward to watching Gonzaga UCLA this week.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">we trade it for vet. personally i'm tantalized about the notion of joe johnson in a raptor uniform</div> I'm not tantalized about his contract.
I would say trade down to about 10th and select Brandon Roy.... I love that boy right there, he has shown he can bring it when he wants to, but can also sit back and play the team game. He's a great defensive player, and one of the best slashers in the nation. He's a SG and would be a perfect fit in Toronto IMO. Although he needs to work on his shot, that can come. That is his only weakness as far as I can see, and I think Toronto should nab him.
allen ray is going to be a second round pick or a late first round, so dont even think about getting him with our 1-15th pic IMO if we get top 4 we should get Rodney Carney or Adam Morrison however--if we get the first pick we should trade it for a C next if we 6-12 we should draft either Boone or reddick. Boone can really help us at the C position. He is very strong, and can easily get rebounds (one thing we lack), as for reddick. He wont be an all-star, and no he wont be a 15ppg guy, but he is an amazing shooter. Whenever you have the chance to get a shooter like Reddick--you should get him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Fever:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm not tantalized about his contract.</div> i don't mind, especially when u consider the so many under-achievers have been signed to similiar contracts and they haven't enjoyed a tenth of joe's success.
adam morrison will make the team tougher he is an energy guy (look at him screaming on national TV over the weekend...i thought he was on drugs) and goes to the basket consistently toronto lacks people like that
If the Raptors get first pick, I believe they will take either Aldridge or Rudy Gay. I don't think the Raptors should take take Adam Morrison, his weaknesses are already our weaknesses as a team as a whole and what he brings to the table for us takes away from what other players on our team already do. The Raptors would be better off going with Gay in that respect, especially because he has been brought up in an environment where he is surrounded with talent knows to defer to other players. Gay has better physical tools to become something the Raptors need: a defensive stopper. He has improved defensively since the beginning of the season where he was burned on the perimeter quite a bit. His improvement should only continue into the NBA level. His rebounding is also superior to Morrison's (by virtue of mindset or athleticism?) which is another thing the Raptors are deficient in. Even as a #1 pick I don't think very many people would mind the Raptors taking him to improve their bench at the very least. If he pans out well for the Raptors he may very well have better numbers than CV3 and bring CV3 off the bench can work for the Raptors. Of course we would still have to sign a bigman, but we would have a much more solid team and When Adam Morrison played Indiana, what really surprised me wasn't that he didn't get his usually 25 points but that he didn't do that great of a job getting his teammates involved. I can see him having major problems on defense in the NBA speed and size wise (205lbs (some have him listed at a better 220 lbs but most of the "more official sites" say 205), not the greatest laterral speed). To me, he will have problems adjusting to the play of a team like the Raptors where his number of shots will have to decline sharply. I think that his game will translate as well has Mike Dunleavy's did to be perfectly honest. Before you guys disagree with me, I want you to read this and see how similar the two are going into the draft: http://nbadraft.net/profiles/mikedunleavy.htm Of course, that is just one resource but watching him play you know that he's amazing at the college level, but you have to wonder how well that will translate for the Raptors. I think he would be much more successful on a team like the Bobcats where his number of shots wouldn't adversely affect other players. If the Raptors drafted Aldridge I think it would be a better choice than Morrison but not as good a choice as Gay. He has the capability to play Center and would at least be an upgrade from Loren Woods, Araujo, or Pape Sow. I don't think the Raptors should go for Bargani as he wouldn't address any of our needs. Depending on who comes out it depends but from the 5 spot to and lower I think the Raptors key guys to grab in no particular order would be would be Rodney Carney, Kyle Lowry, Brandon Roy, Ronnie Brewer, Joakim Noah, or Mardy Collins. Drafting Shelden Williams, JJ Redick, Randy Foye, and Tyrus Thomas (if he comes out) would do much to help our team I think. Neither of those players fill a need we have or, (in the case of Williams) fill it very well. I'm not too sure on Josh Boone (if we go so low) just yet. If we go low enough to get Boone I think we would be better off with Rondo or Farmar. Why go with a point guard when we have Jose backing up Mike James? For me, it makes sense because we aren't 100% we can keep Jam,es and bringing in another guy to back him up and move Jose to 3rd guard or even sometimes to move Mike James to SG as was suggested by a13x, I think, for short periods of time.
I say trade down and get a PG. After all they still do need one. That way they dont have to resign Mike James and they can keep Mo-Pete. I would like to see them draft a darius washington jr. or a rondo, to develop into a really good PG in the future.
Yokaim Noah, everything we need in one player. A center who's athletic plays excellent defense, blocks shots, rebounds and compliments our stlye of play and really fits nice with Bosh and Charlie. With him we could run some princeton offense.

There is no center worth taking as high in the draft that we'll be picking unless you want BC to pull a Cockbab and make a pick by need. We need to look at Brandon Roy who could turn out to be the next Iguodala of the draft. He is ready to step in and help immediately, he has all the intangibles, and still has potential. He is a safe pick that could turn into a great pick. I don't really think we need to draft another PG with Ukic overseas, Calderon here, if James leaves and we need another it wouldn't be a rookie it'll be someone with experience.
Trade the pick no matter where it lands.. Try to get a pass-first point guard if Mike James leaves or stay.. Trade/Sign for a Center who primarily rebounds, play D and block shots. And No not Nene like some of you ppl would want, Raps don't need scoring C's or PF's. And if that is done, Raptors would be a good team. Try to make a trade with Portland sign and trade with Pryzbilla, and acquire Steve Blake or Jarret Jack.. I believe those guys bring what i mentioned.. EDIT - Make a run @ Luke Ridnour too since Seattle is trying to trade everybody. Maybe Danny Fortson too, He can rebound a lot.
