This was posted after we got knocked out. I can't find the original post, but I think this is extremely relevant to why Paul seems set on keeping the core of this team together. http://www.csnnw.com/portland-trail...n-trail-blazers-get-special-speech-paul-allen
Even the Nets Russian billionaire tried to stop going over the cap eventually so he didn't have to pay the huge tax bill. It just isn't feasible unless you are getting to the championship game on the regular. And it also isn't just the millions that the owner has to pay. There are also restrictions in other areas when you keep going over the cap.
Maybe they're looking at our roster in the same vein as Golden State. A few years ago the Warriors had a bunch of young guys that were on the cusp of being something special. They just hadn't developed yet. I don't know who our Draymond would be in this scenario, but Dame and CJ compare favorably to Curry/Klay 3-4 years ago.
I'm guessing Neil and Paul have had the fiscal discussion and Olshey has let Allen know that he will move some contracts so they aren't over the cap when they sign CJ....unless for some reason they mesh and make the Finals with the current roster. Otherwise, there is no way they bring back Harkless after signing Turner, Ezelik, Meyers and Crabbe and then also max out CJ and extend Plumlee next summer. Just WAY too much money. There will be some type of consolidation trade either by the deadline or next summer.
I expect there will be moves I believe Paul already said I think 3 years ago he not going pay the luxury tax no more.
As long as it doesn't lower what they're making, with this suddenly golden flush of money the players will agree to just about anything.
