    Diogu to start against Celtics

    By Joe Stiglich
    CONTRA COSTA TIMES

With the Warriors mired in a five-game losing streak, rookie Ike Diogu will replace center Adonal Foyle in the starting lineup for Wednesday night's game against the Boston Celtics.

Diogu, the ninth overall pick in last June's NBA draft, missed the first 12 games of the season with a fractured hand but has provided a spark off the bench since then.

He's averaging 7.2 points in just 12.9 minutes per game. At 6-foot-8, Diogu is undersized for an NBA center. But coach Mike Montgomery said he'll likely alternate defensive assignments with 6-11 power forward Troy Murphy when necessary.

Foyle, the franchise leader in career blocked shots with 1,007, has played an average of 23.5 minutes per game this seson but is averaging just 4.2 points.</div>

Great news for the Warrior fans. I kind of dont know what to say...YESSSSSS!!11!

Hopefully Adonal can get back to the bench player he was a few years ago, he was pretty solid on defense and really brought energy to the club.

Oh, and props to Tony from WW.net for finding the article.

I just hope that Biedrins will be the one who will come for Diogu, not Foyle... Still great to see Ike get some playing time.

This may be the nail in the coffin for Monty. The reason the Warriors have been losing lately is the opponent's FG%. This in no way helps that out. I think that Elie better start prepping for the Head Coaching job from now.

Foyle was much to blame in the bad FG% early in games, remember Blount and Jefferson of Boston torching him? Remember Dalembert scoring repeatedly on him? Diogu cant be much worse and he doesnt cost us offense like Foyle does. Foyle has consistently been scored on lately and then he responds on offense by dropping an easy pass out of bounds. Bottom line is if Foyle isnt stopping the other teeam from scoring inside he is totally useless, Diogu is as good as Foyle has been playing defensively but he brings great offense inside.

Maybe this change will get us back on the right track.

Well, it basically means we gave up on defense. We need a inside defense by any mean, and Diogu brings less defense than Foyle, so it certainly won't help. But then, it's not like Foyle provided adaquate inside defense lately. And, who knows? Maybe, our scoring will fuel defense. It's a bitter change, because we are just shaking up the line up and hope to see good thing comes out of it, but I hope we can finally end our losing streak...

I like the move and am anxious to see how the team reacts. This should also motivated Foyle to play better too, and maybe he can earn his starting role again, but I have a feeling Monty won't be so quick to make the switch back even if Foyle plays well.

I'd still rather have biedrins starting, just because he at least has his length to alter shots and has a more defensive presence than Diogu.

But I'm happy for the change because Foyle is a big reason why they always get down by ten points in the first quarter.

I hate Monty now because I just waived Ike before his 27 point game. Goddamit. If he just saw more than 5 minutes or DNP I would have kept him since he was a forward/center. I'm on the hating Monty Bandwagon now that I found out he's actually starting.

I got him on my fantasy team in another site when he came back. I've always hated Monty, but no hard feelings now [IMG]

    EDIT:

Diogu is playing center. This should be interesting to see how he does against Mark Blount. Hopefully he can have a great game against there bigs, if he can destroy Detroit's guys, then Boston should be a good game for him. UNLEASH THE BEAST!

More Biedrins! Ohhh what a beautiful morning! Ohhh what a beautiful dayy.... I've got a wonderful feeling..... everythings goooing my wayyyy!

Foyle has played himself off the team. He can't block shots like he used to and the scouting report is out on Foyle, it's no coincidence every game the ball is fed to the opposing team's center which is because Foyle is a terrible interior defender.

Ike playing center is quite unorthodox but the structure of the offense will change leading to more ball movement. Dunleavy loves feeding post players and this will help our ball movement leadin to higher % shots. Getting the ball out of Murphy's hands on isolation plays and into a post player will greatly improve our offense.

Defense: we suck, always have and until we split up Murph & Dun always will. Ideally just get this team to stop hucking from the outside and focus on rebounding the basketball and we should play .500 basketball. Start posting Baron Davis as well, he's unguardable from there. He destroyed Milwaukee in the post this year. It's a waste they don't use him there.

Foyle needs a front line that can stay with his man. Just wait until he goes out east eventually and has a 4 next to him that can play. It's next to impossible to play aggressive D when you can't count on help, and are consistently out of position becuase you're trying to cover for a forward that just got blown by. Unfortunately I think he got screwed here because Murphy can shoot and Dunleavy's Mully's pet.

that's a good point Cohanhater, but it had never affected Adonal in the past. Also everyone is forgetting that Ike blocked quite a few shots in college, and has close to the same wingspan as Foyle anyway, I think we can't get any worse on D so this is a good move for now.

Is Biedrins not playing purely based on match-up problems? I love his energy.

If you think Diogu blocked a lot of shots in college, Foyle averaged 3 times more than Diogu in college. And, in Diogu's early season, Foyle still blocks 3 times more than Diogu (3.06 to .99 in 48 mins scale). Also, by individual defense, Foyle is much better defender than Diogu. So, in terms of defense, this is clearly a downgrade. But, lately, Foyle hasn't been impacting defense for some reason, and if Foyle can't impact the defense, there really is no reason for us to put Foyle on the court. Let's see what Diogu can do as a center, and how Warriors can response to this shake up...

I wonder if Ike is being showcased here before the trade deadline, or Murphy at Center? Hmmm....

Ike being showcased came to my mind as well. Or maybe this is to show Indy how Murphy works with an inside-outside lineup. Hopefully it has to do with neither.
