It happened between Fall Semester and January term, just before Christmas. I was in Madrid that Fall (Scott was in London). I went from Madrid to Australia and New Zealand for six weeks. These were the days before e-mail and when calling internationally as a college student was just too expensive. I knew about Lockerbie, but it never occurred to me anyone I knew was on the plane, all they talked about were the Syracuse students. I got back to school, moved my stuff in our apartment and noted Scott hadn't yet arrived. I checked my mail at the campus center and there was a note to see the President. That's when they told me he had been killed. So no, I wasn't offered straight A's, although that was a good semester for me academically. To keep from thinking about The Hitman (his nickname), I buried myself in my studies.
