With the emergence of Gary Trent Jr. Similar to when the Warriors had to choose between fan favorite Monta Ellis and the upcoming Klay Thompson. Klay was younger, a better shooter and better defender than Monta. Now is there a way to trade CJ for Harden without including GTJ?
I disagree, but only if CJ can keep putting up good assists. He’s doing a better job of running the backup point position. He still has his MeJ moments but if he keeps playing like this I think we can make it work with all three.
He had the ultimate MeJ moment of all MeJ moments tonight. On a key possession late in the game, he literally dribbled the clock away to 5 seconds left and then threw it to RoCo to force up a bad shot to beat the clock.
I love CJ's offense... he's incredible but his defense doesn't really fit next to Dame. If we keep Gary in a Harden trade we'll just be in the same position next off season as we would be if we keep CJ and Gary. I feel like our team is a conundrum but we'll see how everyone is playing at the trade deadline or if something crazy happens with Harden. If Harden has already been moved and we're in a top spot in the West, I would assume that we worry about the conundrum after we make our best playoff run. We then see who plays best in the playoffs and that might dictate what shrewd decisions we have to make.
Every great ball handler and offensive producer does it, every game. Possessions don't always work. I mean check the all time leaders for turnovers. People with the ball in their hands the most often will always have the most mistakes. And the most armchair QBs breathing down their neck.
Honestly....CJ has been a black whole for the majority of his career ignoring wide open teammates on a nightly basis. It's not that he doesn't have the ability to pass, he has just chosen not to do it. It is refreshing to see in the last two games to make basic passes to wide open teammates. Well done....it's about time. But don't pretend like this is anything but a very recent occurrence.
Sure, every great ball handler does it. However, CJ is not on the same level as Dame and damn not on the same level as LeBron or Harden.
The frustrating part is that CJ has great vision and passing ability. Early in his career, he was great at passsing. Not sure if this is something the coaching staff told him to focus on scoring more.
The worst play of the game was CJ dribbling out the clock at the end of the first half. That was tough to watch.
I will back down and agree with you on this. I, in no way, think CJ is as good of a basketball player as Dame, Lebron, James. And yes, he has showed a kind of single minded focus on scoring over his career. But, I also think people shit on CJ waaaaay too much. And so far this year, with CJ as the backup PG with the 2nd unit, he has for the most part done a pretty phenomenal job facilitating while still being an offensive threat. I really don't think it is appropriate to shit on him RIGHT now. He played well. And you pointed out an error he made, that every good player makes, and even the GREAT ones make. Tonight is not the night to shit on CJ. That's all I'm saying. Shows your single minded focus in that regard. Save it for when he deserves it maybe.
I 100% want this to be true. I already convinced myself he was for real in the bubble, but have been disappointed by players before. I really want this to be who GTJ is. One more note. If this is the REAL GTJr, what a fucking steal in the draft. For real.
Just the latest pipe dream that everyone can blame on our GM when it doesn't happen. I love CJ, but I would certainly trade him for floppy Harden. That's just good sense. I'm sure Neil would as well. He isn't as dumb as some think.
