This is why the NHL is making its sport a "gimmick" game instead of a great sport. For crying out loud, cut out all the BS. There are teams in this league, playing by the STUPID rules, are always playing for the tie. It has got to stop. The Shoot Out is bureaucratic crap. Play a ten minute OT; if no one scores, each team gets one point. End the bull shit.

3-on-3 is no less a "gimmick" (in eyes' words) than the shootout is. What happens after teams adjust? 2 on 2? then what, 1 on 1? or will they go to 3-man breakaways like in the All-Star game? It's not easy to end ties in hockey and have people happy.

theres nothing wrong with a shootout, hockey games are a perfect length, 2.5 hrs.....The last thing i want to see is a regular season game going into 3 or 4 overtimes. Especially the way the Rangers play, every game does down to the wire, they would be gassed by game 60.
It would certainly prevent teams from going into a shell in the last 2 min of regulation if there was no guarantee of the extra point. I wouldn't have a problem with an 7-8 min OT. I don't really mind the shootout either though.
