As of frequent watcher of Imus, he really messed up this time. These comments were just repulsive.

I believe he`s sorry, but he might of already done too much damage.

You're a frequent watcher of Imus? Why...?

I mean, obviously he's making an ass out of himself with this statement and whatnot, but was there any content there to begin with? I didn't see any.

This guy has listeners? I'm sorry, the year is 2007, this dude talks (and not to mention looks) like he belongs in the 60's or some old Western movie. I realize I may sound ignorant, but how is this not being made a big issue? Tim Hardaway gets ripped like there's no tommorow for his anti-gay rant, but people believe he's sorry after he calls a team "nappy headed ho's"??

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
This is not the first time he has publicly made some type of racial insult on his show. He actually referred to Sen. Barack Obama as ?that colored fellow.? In addition, he called award-winning journalist Gwen Ifill of PBS a ?cleaning lady? and referred to columnist William Rhoden of the New York Times as a ?quota hire.? According to a November 20, 2001, Newsday article, Imus?s sports anchor Sid Rosenberg said on the air: ?Listen, one of these days you?re gonna see Venus and Serena Williams in Playboy.? Imus replied, ?You?ve got a better shot at National Geographic.? Rosenberg also referred to Venus Williams as an ?animal.? On the November 12, 2004, edition of ?Imus in the Morning,? Rosenberg referred to Palestinians as ?stinking animals? and said, ?They ought to drop the bomb right there, kill ?em all right now.
    </div>

And people like this are still on the air? What the hell is wrong with our society?

Seems like this dude has some sort of superiority complex instilled within him, what a dumbass.

I'm not defending him, but to respond to your comments. He's a shock jock radio host, and most of the demographics he caters to are older white men. These opinionated characters draw high ratings because of the controversial remarks they make and push the envelop of "Freedom of Speech."

I was listening to a debate about this on the radio today, and a lot of African American callers said how is what he said any less demeaning than a lot of rap lyrics out there?

That is an excellent point; I really have no response to that. In fact, it just shows the gap in our society when it comes to issues such as these; there is a double standard that exists to them (i.e - A movie being allowed to be named "White Men Can't Jump"). I think the fact that these comments were said by a person who is pretty much completely detached from and unaware of contemporary black culture and society is what makes it worse.

The fact that he called them "nappy-headed" is just even worse, IMO. He should definitely be fired. The fact that this isn't even the worse thing he's said is reason enough.

Dude, you need to actually watch the movie.

I think the difference between Imus' comments and rap music is that he's attacking a real group of people, while rappers are using the word to refer to a concept or description. Now I'm not defending some rap music's derogatory attitude towards women. I think its wrong as well. But Imus' comments are offensive on a whole different level and are more of a personal attack. If some rapper spouted a line calling the Rutgers basketball team a bunch of "nappy-headed hoes," I don't think there would be any less outrage.

btw, what was up with the jab at the Raptors? I didn't get it and I thought it was completely random.

    btw(x2), lol @ Billy Packer.

I have watched the movie, I'm moreso referencing to the discriminatory generalization that the title suggests. For example, if a broad stereotypical generalization such as "Brown men can't speak proper english" or "Chinese men are only good at math" were to come out as movie titles, I'm sure there is a great part of the world that would take offence to those statements. Why is it any different when a title like that is directed towards white people?

To use another example, a movie called "White chicks", wherein two black men became "white chicks", actually released in theatres. Do you think the world would perceive it the same way if it was two white guys dressing up as "black chicks" and the movie being called "Black Chicks?". No, there definetly is a double standard that exists.

I know what you're talking about, but that's just a bad example. White Men Can't Jump is all about Woody Harrelson hustling people who buy into that stereotype (among other things). If some white dude got offended by that title he'd come off looking like a moron who doesn't understand what he's complaining about.

I'm still just surprised anyone ever listened to the guy in the first place.

This is the most attention Imus has had in his entire career.

The first time I seen this guy I was like, "no wonder they keep him on the radio, damn!" Those remarks he made were ignorant though.

Oh, and the first time I heard of him was also with the remarks, but before I heard the whole story I thought they were going to talk about a new Apple product since I was watching this on the regular news. lol

They pronounced his name as [Eye-Muss] so I was like, wtf?

Not sure if that's how you really pronounce it.
