According to a draft Defense Department memo obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, the department instead may provide up to 10 days of leave to military personnel in same-sex relationships so they can travel to states where they can marry legally. I quote from the last paragraph in the first post: the department instead may provide up to 10 days of leave to military personnel in same-sex relationships so they can travel to states where they can marry legally. The significance of such a move cannot be understated. The military is going to encourage same sex couples to go to states where they can legally marry, then is going to recognize their marriages. It won't be long before the whole government recognizes these marriages, too.
I would not be surprised to see hetero sailors getting married to same sex shipmates to get the extra money.
I think only extending benefits to married couples makes sense, regardless of sexual orientation. Although I don't know if that means they have to go get married in a state they don't live in?
My mother, may she rest in peace, served in the Navy during World War II. One of the lessons she took from her service was to never ignore even a small injustice as small injustices can become big ones, like we saw in Europe in the 1930s and 1940s, if not fought. She would be proud. Mozel tov to all the Navy couples.
Yeah, I remember all the lynchings. [sarcasm] Anyway, I need 10 days leave. Does anyone here want to marry me?
It is a huge mistake to take finest Navy in the world and turn it into a secular purist liberal experiment. The crew morale is the most important element of the combat efficiency of a warship. 77% of military personnel are Christians, only slightly less than the 80% of the general population. It is pretty damn doubtful any positive effects on combat efficiency will attributable to these policy changes. Obama improvements to the best Navy at sea! Well you get what you vote for. Lord help us!!
Heard it all before. Like when they first allowed black men to serve in the armed forces integrated style.
You have heard what before? I doubt you have heard anything but bull shit. Have you served on a warship? Have you been among the crew when 100% of them attended the chaplains service the night before general quarters scheduled for 4:30 am? If not then you know very little but I suspect you will support this experiment anyway. "Heard it all before"!! What a fucking twit!
In the Navy! About fucking time. No reason to deny qualified people from serving because of their skin color or who they want to marry. Guys like you did predict dire consequences for the integration of the military. Those consequences never came to pass, and people who want to serve their country get to. More power to 'em. Caring what a chaplain spews is not a qualification to serve.
This has nothing to do with color. Apparently you can't figure out the basics. You are now fucking with the belief system of 77% of those that serve just to appease a small minority that just like you don't give a shit what they believe. You fuck with that and expect these people to lay there life on the line for the call of duty while stripping them of the belief system is ultimately ignorant. Congratulation Denny, you have made ignorant 1st class without serving anywhere. But it is apparent you are fully qualified.
