The Pacers have traded Brad Miller & Ron Mercer for Scott Pollard & Danny Ferry in a 3 team deal. The Pacers have dumped a lot of salary with this deal, and now have enough to sign Reggie Miller and possibly 1 or 2 more free agents. They also benefit from Ferry next season for $4.5M. However, the Pacers had a chance to make the finals last season, and now they have fallen behind the Pistons & Nets. There are no more free agents this year to make an impact and they lost one of the best big men in the East. If the Pacers were willing to unload Brad Miller they should have dumped Austin Croshere in the deal. He was drafted by Larry Bird, and Bird's return might be the reason Croshere is staying. Does this deal make sense to any of you from the Pacers point of view?

It was either do that deal, and get Pollard in return(a serviceable center in the East), or let Miller walk for nothing. Indiana wasn't going to sign Brad back. At least this should allow JO to stay at PF. Idealy, they'd have liked to dump Croshere, but I don't think Sacramento would take that on. Remember, Sacramento had the leverage in this deal. Yes, Sac. wanted Miller. But they knew Indiana needed a big man in return. They basically told them to take it, or leave it. My guess is that Pollard was the best big man being offered, so they took it. Indiana had little leverage here, which really hurt them. But Pollard should be a decent Center in the East........
