It is foolish to say an NFL team is in crisis during the second week of the preseason. But if the Houston Texans aren't in crisis, its at least safe to say things aren't exactly ideal around their Methodist Training Center.

First, the Texans lost on Saturday, 38-20, to the New Orleans Saints, who dominated the Texans enough during the first half that players and coaches alike were disappointed with the effort. Then came this week, where the team is so down in numbers at the linebacker position that they opted not to practice Monday. Lastly, they just lost rookie kick returner Trindon Holliday for the season with a thumb injury. Holliday will undergo surgery Wednesday.

"It looks like he's done," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "He's got a torn ligament in his thumb and can't get it under control so it has to be fixed."

As the Texans returned to practice three days after allowing four first-half touchdowns to New Orleans, quarterback Matt Schaub said once the film was reviewed, the loss was very much in the past.

"That's what we do as football players and as a football team," Schaub said. "That's what we've been doing our whole lives is good or bad or indifferent . We put it behind us once we watch the film and then move on and then we approach the next week."
