Inside the Pistons training camp at Auburn Hills

Camp competition: The backup point guard position seems to be Carlos Arroyo's job to lose. His experience, ball-handling and floor presence appear to be too much for rookie Alex Acker to overcome.

Stock rising: Carlos Delfino played well during the team's intrasquad scrimmage Thursday night. He scored from the perimeter and on drives to the basket. He also made a couple of solid defensive plays.

Strategy session: There were times in the past couple seasons when teams gave the Pistons problems by using pick-and-roll plays. One of the strengths of coach Flip Saunders' zone defense is that it makes it more difficult for teams to get easy baskets while running the pick-and-roll. "Since you're not guarding a man, you're guarding zone areas," Saunders said. "A lot of times, when one guy has the ball in one area, there's always two guys in help position." And the player who normally sets the pick, Saunders said, is usually being guarded by another player from another area in the zone.
