read this analysis of this years finals matachupp by ESPN basektball expert Rick Kamla. some people thought the nets presented matchup problems for the spurs. looks like they might be wrong about that after all <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Point Guard -- Jason Kidd vs. Tony Parker: What we have here is the NBA?s assist leader four years running against one of People Magazine?s 50 Most Beautiful People. Advantage: Kidd. Shooting Guard -- Stephen Jackson vs. Kerry Kittles: Lost in Steve Kerr?s three-point ambush were the 24 points from Jackson that kept San Antonio in Game 6. Jackson has scored 17 or more points in four of his last five games. Kittles has failed to reach double-digit points in five of six. Advantage: Jackson. Small Forward -- Richard Jefferson vs. Bruce Bowen: R.J. is one of the league?s premier finishers, but his jump shot needs work -- lots and lots of work. "Hack-a-Bowen" led the NBA in three-point percentage during the regular season (.441), but he went to the Chris Dudley School of Foul Shooting. Bowen's only defensive rival on the wing is Ron Artest. Jefferson?s defense is overrated, as his playoff averages of 0.57 steals and 0.14 blocks attest. Advantage: Bowen. Power Forward -- Tim Duncan vs. Kenyon Martin: Byron Scott wants Martin to start out defending Duncan, but that's a mistake. It not only subjects Martin to foul trouble, it could tire him to the point that his offense suffers. Duncan is averaging 24.9 points, 14.8 rebounds, and 54.1 percent shooting in the playoffs. Martin isn't far behind, chiming in with 20.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 50.4 percent from the field. Bottom line: If Shaquille O?Neal and Robert Horry can?t stop the two-time MVP, no one can. Advantage: Duncan. Center -- David Robinson vs. Jason Collins: Shouldn't this be Malik Rose vs. Aaron Williams? Advantage: Robinson (sorry, I respect my elders). Bench -- San Antonio vs. New Jersey: The Nets go eight deep with Rodney Rogers, Aaron Williams, and Lucious Harris, while the Spurs go 10 deep with Manu Ginobili, Malik Rose, Speedy Claxton, Kevin Willis, and Steve Kerr. Rogers is a former Sixth Man of the Year, but Manu and Malik could start for a lot of teams. Reserves account for 29.7 percent of the scoring in San Antonio and 26 percent in New Jersey. Advantage: San Antonio. Coaches -- Gregg Popovich vs. Byron Scott: Both coaches have made it to the Finals, but only Pop has the jewelry (1999 Finals) and hardware (2002-03 Coach of the Year). Scott is 23-11 (.667 winning percentage) in two postseason appearances, while Popovich is 43-28 (.606) in six trips to the playoffs. Advantage: Popovich. </div> good points all of them. the really astonishing thing is that the nets only have ONE matchup in their favor out of 7. Kamla was nice and in the end gave the nets 2 wins in the series but it Looks like this series may not be as close as people are saying.
its funny that the topic is called "intellegent breakdown of the finals" but intelligent is spelled wrong.....otherwise it is a really good breakdown of the matchups, i also think that the nets will take 2 games
hahaha...lucky thing i wasnt refering to myself as the intellegent one....thatd look pretty bad huh? ....i mean uh....iknew that...sure. sure. i meant to spell it wrong. it was a joke. get it?
R.J. is one of the league?s premier finishers, but his jump shot needs work -- lots and lots of work. Jefferson?s defense is overrated, as his playoff averages of 0.57 steals and 0.14 blocks attest. Advantage: Bowen. im not sure thats wrong. I mean yea Jefferson is fast and he can dunk but he might not be able to do all that much with a great defender like bowen on him. Bowen will at least be able to get his points becuase hes always gonna et the periodic open three and can hit
Bruce has not been getting involved enough for my liking lately....when he is open he will normally hit the three but he can't score when someone is on him..he is one of the best guard defenders in the league..but if kidd gets that fast break going jefferson will feed on that and not even bowen can stop him on the break. The tempo will decide how good bowen will be and how RJ will do....bryon scott says they will not double duncan....if that is true then bruce won't be effective on offence at all. However i doubt scott will stay true to his word..there is no way you can't double TD....you have to...or you will lose..and lose quickly. The suns had success doubling duncan..nets will have to do the same so if nets get the fast break going spurs ib 5..but if SA control the tempo...spurs in 5... One part of me says...i hope spurs win in 4..but the other side...i want this series to go on...as after this no more NBA basketball
yea. if they dont double duncan he will absolutley destroy them. he could average 35-40 for the series with just kmart and reserves on him. Bowen will be able to make his own shot as well as jefferson will as bruce bowen wont have to deal with a defender the likes of bruce bowen messing up his evry shot
kittles jackson matchup is even. richard jefferson is better than bowen. but besides that he got everything else right.
naw. jackson will have the eddge on kittles and he made a really good points about jefferson and bowen
I think that TD will make a lot of problems for KMART because it looks more like Duncan getting 30 pts like everygame, KMART scores about umm 20 pts a game but Duncan will make his game a killer easily. SPURS WIN IN 6
KMart actually score about 15 a game. hes overrachieved for himself these playoffs but where can one come back to earth if not against tim duncan. kmart might also get intimidated especilalay when things start to get tough and the nets are down
I don't know about the rest of you but i just want this thing to get started.. LETS GET IT ON!! it finally starts tonight 8)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "allnet":</div><div class="quote_post">I don't know about the rest of you but i just want this thing to get started.. (I wish I could be in the Middle of that) but anyway, I wanna see Parker get smoked by my boy Jason Kidd :-D LETS GO NETS!!
gah. tonight is so far away. i think i'ma tape the game so i can watch it tomorrow too, lol. if Jefferson gets the best of Bowen, it'll be because Bowen doesn't have his offensive game going. It won't be because of anything Jefferson did.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "slamduncan21":</div><div class="quote_post">if Jefferson gets the best of Bowen, it'll be because Bowen doesn't have his offensive game going. It won't be because of anything Jefferson did.</div> No,it would be because The spurs allowed Nets to run...and therefore jefferson has a good game...if spurs allow nets to run..RJ will have a good game.Bowen has given nothing to the spurs on offence the last 3 games....as long as he gets the open looks he might get going...but he has even missed wide open threes...c'mon bruce stay focused. Also i must say..i don't expect bowen to guard jefferson...you ask why? because jefferson isn't going to be the player that goes one on one like kobe and NVE did....so why should he guard RJ all the time? i expect bowen to guard kidd quite abit...
true. i'm not sure if bowen is fast enough for kidd though. i dono. i'd like to see that matchup.. i'd also like to see what Ginobili would do to the nets
imagine if the finals were antoine walker vs the nets and spurs combined, that would be awesome! it would even be close probably with antoine walker only winning by 20-30 each game.
